As the client was a designer, the client’s brief for this open office was not just a brief floor plan; it was an emotion—an emotion to create something unique, a space that allows a different experience throughout the day. Keeping in mind the principles of the French architect Le Corbusier, we tried to match some keywords from the brief, as we usually do. An architect’s office is a space that is conceived as a springboard for architectural dialogue, creativity, and design. It should, hence, unfold and interact in such a way that its users feel connected to the spatial setting around them. An 1100-square-foot open, purely rectangular office floor plan had immense potential to explore this aspect.
This Office with an Open Floor Plan Explores the Impact of Emotions | Imarat Designers
The concept was to create an open office with a free-flow movement plan. The zoning of the space is divided into four segments, starting with the reception and the waiting area, leading towards the discussion area, and then towards the workstations (studio space), finally leading towards the principal architect’s cabin. We wanted to create some unique and fascinating screens that act as space dividers and also define a particular space.
The concept was to design and place the M.S. screens in a way that the user feels connected with the entire space if outside the enclosed screen boundary, and at the same time, when the user steps inside that particular enclosed screen boundary, the user starts feeling the space itself as if in a closed cabin.
Also at the preliminary stage of the plan layout, the concept was to make the user travel the entire space in a flow created by the screens straight to the architect’s cabin. The concept of the open design with no ceilings and clear glass makes the office spatially expensive and functionally resourceful.
The timeless palette of natural pine is constant across the entire workspace. The artistic planter screens and reception table, made from natural pinewood battens, stand out as stellar design features. They crafted all the storage units from raw pine wood, maintaining a very natural and simple aesthetic.
We used felt board in the ceiling keeping its color raw to match with our color palette.
The pattern was designed to make the ceiling appear wider. The planter screens with a touch of orange and grey add to our colour palette and divide the studio space and the passage intelligently.
To pay respect to the Master we have installed some of his magnificent artworks on the canvas with his masterpiece “The Open Hand” on the studio walls
