This 1000 Sqft House Explores With A Burst Of Colours, Shapes, And Materials | Studio ODD

The 1000 sqft house was to accommodate them and Cookie (their cat) for most days and occasionally friends and family. We started with turning a 3bhk into an occasional 2/3bhk. The third room was designed to be a lounge that could turn into a dining room or even a bedroom when needed. After finalizing the layout, we focused on storing over 100 pairs of shoes for the clients’ sneaker brand. We addressed this by incorporating multiple hidden storage spaces wherever possible. This was precisely the brief given by this very dynamic Mumbai couple, Nisha and Sangeet.

This 1000 Sqft House Explores With A Burst Of Colours, Shapes, And Materials | Studio ODD

A Burst of Colors

This 1000 sqft house explores the space with a burst of colours, shapes, and materials layered proportionately so as not to feel overwhelming. Birchwood furniture with a backdrop of micro-concrete on the walls, ribbed glass to add depth, and a subtle throw of colours all throughout the space.

The first piece you see in the house is the bar unit, custom designed to look like a piece of art. The living room hosts a comfortable sofa and a statement red armchair, placed over an unusual-shaped rug and layered with an embroidered teak nesting coffee table. The TV unit extends into a bookshelf on one end and a shoe unit on the other.

Lounge

The lounge hosts two single beds and a bench, which makes it a U-shaped lounge/dining space. The coffee table turns into a dining table, changing the usage of the space.

Once we remove the bench and join the beds, you’ll have a cozy bedroom with a queen-size bed, which we can separate from the living area with a ribbed glass partition.

Kitchen

We continued the micro-concrete in the narrow lobby and in the powder bathroom. And to break the monotony, we added a bunch of art. The kitchen, kept very clean, has hues of pink with a backsplash tile that brings in a bit of drama.

We kept the bedrooms simple, using minimal materials and focusing on colour and form. We added a lot of custom furniture to the space, giving it a unique look.
