Editor’s Note: As the name rightly suggests, Tranquil Home represents the feeling of peace through nuanced articulations. While the common areas are soft-spoken through their design stand, there is a pleasant surprise of bold pop and grids in the bedrooms. Noticeable features also include the well-structured and narrated pieces of lighting adorning the spaces. ~ Nishal Sevak(Co-Editor)
Inspired by the maximization of space found in a quintessential Singaporean high-rise apartment, this 1,200-square-foot home was built to feel fluid and open, with timeless details in each room. While the overarching theme of the house is led by minimalism—with white walls, marble-finish vitrified-tiled flooring and muted décor—there are quiet elements of warmth and colour that brighten up each space. The intention behind the home’s design was to have a clutter-free home that would be easy to maintain, allowing daily habits of each member of the family, particularly their child, who required ample space to run around.

An overarching colour palette comprising shades of white with soothing hues of mint extend across the living area, dining room, kitchen and into the master bedroom. This monochromatic theme is carefully balanced with touches of brass elements, creating a visually striking contrast and punctuating the otherwise serene ambiance with unique focal points.
The entrance of the home gives a peek into the kitchen across, and opens into the airy living room on the left. The TV is strategically placed on a wall between the living and dining room, where slatted panelling allows every piece of wiring and electrical fitting to be neatly tucked away, while also letting light stream between both spaces. This visually creates an open floor plan, connecting both rooms while still providing a sense of partitioning.
In the compact kitchen, space constraints resulted in a semi-open layout that seamlessly integrated with (and opened into) the dining room. Maximization of every inch of space has been prioritized in the powder blue cabinets, which have been paired with rich royal blue tiles for the backsplash against a black countertop. The brass sink and faucet complement the brass detailing within the panels used for the partition between the living and dining room, along with the side tables and accessories across both rooms. These quiet intricate details create a sense of harmony within the space, tying each design element together.
A significant feature in the home is the puja room, which is tucked away within glass doors in a nook to the corner of the living and dining rooms. A sacred space for religious ceremonies, it has been designed to seamlessly blend within the interiors of the rest of the home. A set of drawers below conceal storage for ceremonial items below.
The walk-in closet plays a significant role in optimizing limited floor space in the master bedroom, and a large mirror creates an illusion of depth while offering functional use.
The room follows a monochromatic theme here, too, with mint-coloured walls and wardrobes that blend seamlessly with the overall design. Although the bedroom is relatively small, a large bay window brings in ample natural light and makes room for a cosy reading nook.
The guest rooms play with accents of colour—one features grey upholstery and brass fittings; and the other, a bold burgundy backdrop behind the bed. The inclusion of a window in each room compensates for the lack of balconies, creating a connection with the outdoors.
Despite the smaller dimensions, the rooms are designed to provide comfort and functionality, with simple wardrobes that extend the clean-lined minimalism of the rest of the space.
