  • This Apartment in Pune is the Perfect Combination of Classic and Minimalistic Structure | Olive Interiors

Editor’s Note: In an another attempt to outline the delightful customs of Scandinavian interiors, Olive interiors have delivered charming nuances in this abode. The spot of pastel shades on the wall sits effortlessly well with cane furniture and mute background. Quaint details like aligning the main door handle with the wall installation in the foyer and the quiet corner of dining space make up as a meaningful and homely setting. ~ Nishal Sevak(Co-Editor)

Minimalistic and Scandinavian design is a trend getting re-introduced in the designing field. Sayli Belsare, the principal designer at Olive Interiors, always loves to create such clean, neat and beautiful homes. Clean lines, reductive, un-clattered, monochromatic, simple, ‘less is more’- these are some terms and concepts that immediately come to mind when thinking about minimalism. This apartment in Pune is the perfect combination of classic and minimalistic structure spread across its perimeter.

Although minimalism is usually associated with a modern & contemporary look but she believes that minimalism can also be associated with classic and traditional elements in design. Achieving such combination is more than just choosing a few pieces of furniture for a white backdrop, which can leave the space feeling cold & sparse.

So all the pieces need to speak with one another & relate in regards to things like line, colour, mass etc. They must work well together in their basic shape.

With that philosophy, the team worked in all the corners of the apartment. This apartment is on 21st floor of the building near the hilly area of Baner, Pune. In the living & dining area, all of the elements are purposeful- L shaped sofa and dining chairs to comfortably sit in, foldable dining table for the most utilization of the space, the use of trunk as a coffee table.

Other than furniture items, the utilization of the niche in the wall, use of material as rattan cane in furniture and the selection of soothing earthen shades are complimenting to the theme.

All the bedrooms are designed to feel cozy and to give enough breathing space to the eye. The wood, the cane, the soothing shades, natural light and the curtains make justice to the phrase ‘less is more.’

Even the art is simple in composition. And the clients have extremely active lives & need their homes to be restful and not directly stimulating to the eye.

Natural light plays very important role in the design. We have allowed the sunlight to come in more and we have kept our design and color scheme considering it. The idea of clean space is truly a driver behind the minimalistic movement but in an Indian household to make that happen was challenging but we made it possible.

Everything had to be uncomplicated & colors and textures had to harmoniously blend, the space had to be calming and welcoming. The space utilization, use of natural light, use of limited elements in design and a keen eye to detail makes a project look not being over stimulating and balanced.

The designers believes the space should be filled 70% and not 100%. So that in future if you want to add anything or you want to change anything, there is scope to make it possible. When your home is designed in minimalistic way, you always have a chance to enhance it by adding some cushions, curtains and artifacts. By changing the decor, you can have that newness feel in your home.

The final look is an uncluttered, clean, airy and sophisticated space which is perfectly functional and harmonious, that offers tranquility to the eye and serenity to the soul.
