This apartment is more than just a 4bhk home in Bangalore with spacious and airy spaces for a lovely couple, their two daughters and occasionally visiting parents. Proud Mumbaikars who have travelled and lived in different places for their work, and now call Bangalore a home. They chose this place because their apparent brief was Let it Be!. Let the openness remain yet create some cosy corners for a swing, a puja space, a showcase memorabilia et al.

Editor’s note : Gently orchestrating a sense of openness, a residence emerges where the expansive airiness gives rise to a serene interior that embodies both simplicity and practicality. The neutral colour palette contributes to a tranquil ambience, while a brick-textured wall serves as a catalyst for engaging conversations. The presence of sleek lines and charming wall niches further elevates the overall aesthetic appeal of this space. ~ Venessa Thomas (Co-Editor)
Thus began the exciting journey of a dual-layered design endeavour, amplifying the expansiveness by adorning the house with some subtle yet illuminated feature walls. Simultaneously, creating forth some interesting nooks and niches, each highlighting a unique element.
A nook for the lounge and a niche for the artefact, a bay to enjoy the outside, a swing zone to feel the inside, an alcove for the Puja, a den for the Study.
The large living room emanates a rustic hue with white brick cladding, adorning two perpendicular walls behind the TV and gathering area.. At one end of this wall, facing the balcony mounts a swing, much desired by the family.
With some chairs and a bench nearby, it makes for a casual sitting nook for those easy conversations. On the other brick wall leading towards the dining area, are carefully crafted niches showcasing curios, souvenirs et Al.
On the other side of the living has the main gathering area featuring the TV flanked by a Puja unit. It is refreshingly plain and open, striking a balance in the overall aesthetic of the living expanse.
Dining nook adorns an elaborate teak finished crockery unit, quite the highlight of the home. In comparison, the kitchen is kept very subtle in muted tones.
The master bedroom of the home exudes an understated luxury. It begins with the wholly customised Teak finished bed in rattan and fabric, curved headboard complemented by similar language Side tables.
The geometry balances with the straight line niches carved out on the parallel wall, beautifully rendering to the overall theme of the home. A peach hue behind the bed perks up the feels. In all of this, not to be missed is the leather handle on the side tables.. a small cupid to the overall aesthetics of the space.
Overall this room could be called Balinese or Greek, very modern or very country-like. Simplé put, very very homely!
Guest Bedroom is a straight forward plan with the wardrobe and an existing bed. But what draws the attention is the Bay nook specially designed integrating two windows on the perpendicular walls and composed with veneer panelling all around. It is a composition to behold.. always inviting, come any season of the year.
Daughters’ bedroom is a delight to the eye from the moment one enters into it. The soothing pastel pink color scheme, combined with warm white tones, creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Wardrobe, cabinetry and study are all treated in PU polish for that sheen. But what really catches the attention is the scalloped headboard holding fort to the beds.
And cherry on the cake is the wallpaper adds a touch of playfulness and pops of personality. It’s a space that radiates comfort and charm, inviting the girls to feel right at home.
On the other side, window beside, is designed a petite bay and and elaborate study for the girls. Toys/book niches add to the colour Pop and beautifully ties to the theme…
