A home with Visually Stimulating, Nature Inspired Contemporary Spaces that are Warm and Welcoming | Advait

Our client, a multigenerational family, wanted to build a home with visually stimulating, nature inspired contemporary spaces that are warm and welcoming. The house design sounds captivating with its attention-grabbing usage of masses and voids. With a total built up area of 3700 Sq.ft “Aikyam” is a thoughtful arrangement of volumes and scales ensuring that each area of the house has its own distinct character while still maintaining a cohesive overall design. The concept of using lines of varying size and thickness is reflected everywhere, staircase, flooring, grills, walls and so on.

Editor’s note : A dynamic fusion of traditional and modern aesthetics, the house embraces cultural diversity with spaces oozing elegance and functionality. By skillfully erasing the boundaries between indoor and outdoor, it orchestrates a seamless flow that magnifies the overall living experience. While its mundane exterior might have missed an opportunity to redefine contemporary living in India and challenge conventional norms, its captivating interiors compensate for it. ~ Venessa Thomas (Co-Editor)

The design of the façade incorporates the combination of Kadappa black stone, metal and textures of wood to create a timeless aesthetic. Contemporary spaces are designed to maximize luxury living without overwhelming the space.

By strategically positioning the metal window on the northern facade within the double-height space, we have taken advantage of natural light and the changing position of the sun throughout the day. As sunlight filters through the window, it casts captivating shadows, creating a play of light and dark that enhances the drama and visual impact of the space.

The goal was to create a house with integrated family rooms that smoothly transitioned into one another. The lower ground plate consists of parking and a 2bhk apartment.

The double-height living area serves as a central gathering space, facilitating interaction and communication between family members. It acts as a hub that connects the various rooms and levels of the house, allowing for easy movement and a sense of togetherness.

The flooring is a composition of Indian dazzle marble and Imported Armani Brown, fostering a sense of family inclusivity and togetherness. The bungalow celebrates functionality with its crisp and extraneous design details.

The decision to avoid overly furnishing the three bedrooms aligns with the desired design concept. Sometimes, a minimalist approach can enhance the overall atmosphere and create a sense of tranquility and openness within the rooms. This approach allows the key elements and features of the bedrooms to shine, promoting a feeling of spaciousness and relaxation.

When using bold colors and patterns, it’s essential to consider the proportion and distribution within the space. Balance is the key to ensuring a harmonious and visually pleasing result. Incorporating the teal accent color strategically throughout the room in textiles and accessories to create a cohesive and well-integrated design.

The choice of a dramatic color treatment with overlapping organic patterns in dark green tones can indeed transform the feel and appearance of a room, especially on the walls. Using such a color scheme can create a unique and visually striking atmosphere. Dark green hues often evoke a sense of nature and tranquility, providing a soothing and earthy ambiance within the space.

The ideal minimalist hue, grey, fits perfectly in any space.  Here, its subdued tone is complimented and contrasted over a wooden surface. Use of natural light and ventilation are given special consideration in each room. Picturesque windows are installed to maximize sunlight entering the building while blocking out the sun’s heat with buffer spaces like balconies.

Opting for a subdued color and finish for the moldings is a smart decision. It allows the molding to make a statement without overpowering the rest of the room. A more understated color and finish can complement the overall color scheme and style of the space, contributing to a cohesive and harmonious design.

By leveraging imaginative ideas and making thoughtful choices in the design process, it’s indeed possible to build an affordable luxurious dwelling with contemporary spaces. The key lies in finding creative solutions that add value and visual appeal without compromising on quality and functionality.
