  • A Grand Restaurant With Unique Interiors Which Relate to the Wabi-Sabi Philosophy | Studio Of Architecture

A multi-cuisine restaurant, this dining experience takes one to a different level. “The Masala County”, a grand restaurant with unique interior style which relates to the Wabi-Sabi philosophy. For the entrance zone that is the esteem of the restaurant, we designed the grand entry with wooden lattice. As it enhances the beauty and ambiance which shows the richness of the place. We then designed the Giant central zone which the combines all three zones. To cover this space, we used canvas drape ceiling and customized fiber lamps to give it a one-piece look and the royalness of the place.

Editor’s note : “The rise of a restaurant that successfully adopts the philosophy of Wabi Sabi amidst a time crunch offers an experience beyond the plate.” For onlookers, this might seem a bit monotonous, but the beauty lies in the details. This beige-drenched interior project reflects nothing less than a simplistic take on the word grandeur. The cross-knit pattern on the floor compliments the mammoth-sized arched jaali openings, while the accent lighting elevates the fine-dining ambience. Every element, from the large bamboo lamps to the intricate pattern on the wall, is a vivid play on juxtaposition. Though heavy in nature, the draped canvas ceiling is the centre art piece. With its bellowing movement and magnitude, it visually transports one to a surreal dining experience. ~ Venessa Thomas (Co-Editor)

We also designed private zones with beautiful natural stone walls highlighted with customized bamboo lamps that are larger than life size. To combine all three zone with three different elements, we selected one neutral colour palette. The Masala County is Wabi-Sabi theme based restaurant pared down with beautiful lamps, arches and drape canvas ceiling.

The previously designed TMC was had an elegant design as well, so it was an altogether tough task to design the project with an out-of-the-box theme. We came up with a different concept that relates to an aesthetic ambiance. The crucial challenge was the limitation of time. With the Diwali festivities in line, we managed to finish the project in short period of designated time. It was a tough job to finish this task before time as the elements which we used were all customized. Yet the project was executed in merely 28 days!

The client expected the restaurant to be designed while retaining the brand personality, with well-crafted dinning capacity and ambiance and spaciousness, along with privacy zones. For the achieving the privacy, we designed small partitions as the elements to give a good visual appeal and match with the ambiance of the restaurant. As per the client’s requirements, we also designed a central zone with high-rise platform for live music, which could also be used as a celebration platform.

We made sure all the requirements and expectations were met according to the client. We also reused certain materials like glass and plywood.

We also used different kinds of elements like wooden partition for privacy, drape canvas for ceiling and fiber & metal lamps combiner for all the zones. We gave the space a natural look with natural stone wall and bamboo lamps to give an aesthetic style.

Our main element was flooring that was traditional and nude shade merging with the wabi-sabi theme.

As the user can experience, the restaurant was designed according to my design philosophy, which also successfully achieved the time-challenging limit of just 28 days!

My most favourite space was the giant wooden lattice at the entrance which is esteem of whole place and customized bamboo lamps which are larger than life size.

I would like to heartily thank my entire SA team, TMC team, my working team agencies and workers, without whom it wouldn’t have been possible to complete this project.
