  • With An Eclectic Mix Of Art, Bespoke Furniture And A Splash Of Serene Blue, This Apartment Is Aesthetic Bliss | Yellow Door Architects

Editor’s Note: With such an eclectic mix of designs, the apartment has an expressive dialect. The overlapping of colors and patterns sit well with the overall creativity, while the lighting pendants are an interesting set of selections for they are come out to be the star element. ~ Nishal Sevak

As the door opens, you are welcomed into the home with a warm blue Parisian panelled wall onto your right. On the other side you are welcomed with a beautiful water colour art piece painted by Sivabalan. The panelled wall welcomes you and also creates a sense of intrigue. It creates a sense of arrival for the guests / people are immediately drawn to that. The panelled wall camouflages two doors within it. It houses a cloak room and the son’s bedroom lies adjacent to the cloak room. With an eclectic mix of art, bespoke furniture and a splash of serene blue, this apartment is aesthetic bliss.

As you walk through the entryway, you are led to the living spaces which is the living, dining and Puja area, it is framed on two sides, on one side is the balcony and on the other side is a lovely open kitchen. A floating prayer cabinet made of mild steel pipes and a golden wooden box acts as a privacy screen between the dining and foyer.

The living room is breezy and natural light fills up the space until sunset. To compliment the sunlight the walls are treated with a cement finish texture that runs throughout the living spaces.

The surfaces of the walls are adorned by a timber beading that run throughout the common spaces. Light timber chevron flooring binds all the elements together and warms up the space.

The central feature of the dining area is the mirror ceiling. The beveled mirror accentuates the light and volume of the space.

We intended to design a space for the client that reflects their personality and style and the way they would have loved to live. They were interested in dialing up the sense of luxury in the space. We did that through materiality. The spaces were designed concurrently with the selection of each material. Each material has been applied in a specific way and every material has been selected for its organic nature, like the hand glazed tile in the bathroom, beautiful honed marble dining top, the brass inlay the Son’s room, timber beading, all of this comes together to create a very texturally dense experience.

We also had to maintain the elegance and refinement that the couple were looking for in their living spaces. We used a lot of colour throughout the property to offset all the muted natural textures like the blue wall, the pink cement texture walls, carefully curated artwork and furnishings.

The apartment houses 3 bedrooms, each with their own en suite. The bedrooms are custom designed to cater to the individual requirements of each of its inhabitant like the study cum library in the son’s bedroom, a cozy family reading nook in the family room, a metal display case in the master bedroom.

There is an eclectic mix of art and bespoke furniture throughout the home. We wanted to make sure that we create a truly enriching environment for the family.

The bathrooms were an integral part of the design process as well. A splash of colour is complimented with muted tiles, like the tailor made tropical tiles were paired with a muted wooden imitation tile. Materials for the rest of the spaces in the bathrooms were simple, white bench tops with timber drawers.

The home theatre is nestled at the end of the corridor, which is truly enjoyed by the family together. The clients understood the complexity of design and the time spent in that design process and how important it was to achieving a sophisticated and fully resolved end result.
