Designing the Gupta family’s four-bedroom residence meant crafting a home that could gracefully evolve with time. The clients—a couple and their two sons—approached us with a clear brief: a home that feels modern but endures, elevated yet comforting, and above all, one that functions seamlessly for a family that values both togetherness and privacy. They envisioned a warm, refined, and thoughtfully detailed space—one that reflects each member’s personality within their own rooms, yet comes together harmoniously.
The design blends contemporary sensibilities with togetherness and transitional warmth to create what the family now fondly calls their “private retreat.” “With a strong focus on soft luxury and intelligent functionality, the design ensures the home remains comfortable, relevant, and gracefully adaptable as the family grows.” Each room carries its own narrative—modern European influences for one son, a cosier personalised space for the other, a trendy and playful master suite, and a neutral, welcoming guest room. The result is a residence that feels elevated, modern, and effortlessly livable.
Togetherness And Privacy Function Seamlessly In This Modern Home | Teak & Linen
Abundant concealed storage is integrated seamlessly into wall panelling, niche units, and built-in wardrobes, ensuring that every space remains open and uncluttered. Brass accents introduce refined warmth without overpowering the aesthetic. Bespoke wall treatments, customised furniture, and multi-functional corners allow the home to support both work and leisure with ease.
The overarching design language balances clean contemporary lines with classic silhouettes and warm materiality. Natural textures, soft neutrals, and carefully chosen accent tones keep the spaces grounded while introducing gentle luxury. Trends were incorporated sparingly—through lighting, finishes, décor and textiles—ensuring the home ages beautifully.
The living room anchors the home with a calming palette and a sense of formal elegance to improve togetherness of the family. Abstract artworks and bespoke treatments bring texture and richness, while thoughtful planning ensures the space feels open yet amply seated for guests.
Soft curves, generous display areas for collected artefacts, and layered ambient lighting work together to create mood and depth—from the pendant above the sideboard to the wall lights flanking the console and the suspended light beside the mandir.
The mandir itself is integrated with quiet grace, both functional and visually harmonious.
This bedroom reflects the younger son’s modern European aesthetic through rich textures, brass hardware, refined panelling, and layered lighting. A bespoke sculptural metal artwork adds a bold statement, while the wallpapered wardrobe introduces depth and softness.
The overall composition gives the room its own distinct identity, yet maintains cohesion with the home’s visual narrative and togetherness.
The older son and his fiancée wanted a warm, inviting room tailored to their lifestyle. A flexible study corner provides a functional workspace that can be closed off to allow for exercise—transforming the room between work, rest, and personal time.
Open niches display souvenirs from their travels, while playful Claymen heads express their favourite emotions, adding intimacy and personality.
The master bedroom is where the clients embraced trends with enthusiasm and togetherness. The dramatic arched panelling behind the bed serves as both a sculptural backdrop and a source of gentle mood lighting.
The client’s wife’s favourite colour—green—appears in the entrance wardrobe through a subtly detailed wallpaper applied over glass. A full-length mirror not only serves practical needs but also reflects the span of the home, amplifying light and depth.
Despite being the smallest room in the home, the guest room feels universally appealing. Light-toned wardrobes with customised wooden handles and generous circulation around the bed ensure comfort for both residents and visitors. The study table doubles as a luggage platform—an efficient detail that preserves floor area while enhancing usability.
The final result is a thoughtfully curated home that blends modernity with warmth, function with beauty, and trends with timelessness. It is designed to evolve with the family—hosting festivals, welcoming guests, and supporting everyday routines—without ever feeling dated.
The Gupta residence embodies the essence of a private retreat: refined, comfortable, deeply personal, and effortlessly elegant.
This home was a study in balance—between modern and classic, personal taste and timelessness, and aesthetics that support real everyday life. I wanted to design a home that feels modern but not cold, elegant but not fragile; a home that embraces milestones, routines, and changing lifestyles. The brief centred on longevity—quiet luxury, intelligent storage, and a palette designed to stay relevant for years. The idea of a ‘private retreat’ became our anchor: luxurious in feel, calm in mood, and thoughtful in function. This project is a reflection of restraint, refinement, and above all, the family’s warmth, their modern spirit, and their desire for timeless comfort.
