  • This residential interior is a synonym of minimal design | TROPICAL AXIOM

“The Harp” is a two storey residential interior designed for a couple and their two working young children in the rural context of Thrissur. Clients wanted their home to be designed within their bounded income, yet modern and minimalistic.

The concept in which the project is approached is inspired by the design principle which states that “the design of the interior space or object should primarily relate to its intended function or purpose”. From the initial stages of the planning and construction itself, the interiors were considered and those elements are detailed so that they will be a part of the total interior theme. This not only makes the design cost-effective but also gives identity to each component of the design.

The subtle warm palette used throughout the house gives a welcoming effect resonating the personality of the owners. An interior focus on clean, sleek lines and striking elements and often giving off a peaceful, serene feel.

A partition is introduced between the living, dining and prayer, breaking the continuous vision from the entrance and is inspired by Harp, a musical instrument from the biblical references. The partition is made using polished iron rods representing the strings of the harp, the inbuilt seating & laminated wooden panelling around it represents the sound box and the neck of the instrument.

The living, dining, prayer and kitchen walls are white and neutral colours, to bring in light and brightness in the space and the furniture pieces have been chosen to add colour. The accent walls behind the TV unit in the double-height living room is treated with cement texture paint finish and repetitive geometric pattern which makes the living more spacious.
