The design concept of The Hiravilla revolves around the philosophy of harmonizing human habitation with environment. Prioritizing the client’s affinity to nature and semi-arid climatic conditions of Ahmedabad, we arranged the spaces to have a simple plan with a singular passage and all living spaces connected to the garden and basically divided the house without compromising light and ventilation. The building’s sleek and contemporary design elements juxtapose against the lush greenery that surrounds it.
Innovative design solutions were applied to rectify the existing site challenges, such as the unique play of mass and void in the compound wall to accommodate the existing tree without compromising it’s size or form.
And continuing the same wall pattern as a landscape component creates an element of surprise that reveals the garden as one goes up the porch steps along the water body, giving the whole experience a sensory appeal.
Cantilevered cuboids accentuates the diverse functionality and creates the intimacy without being restrictive, while at the same time giving rise to volumes which are visually appealing.
Mass and space are assembled in response to the direction of the sun. All the utilities were coordinated in the backyard and living spaces are an extension of the garden and can be opened up for social gatherings.
Orientation played a crucial role, with the placement of windows and openings optimized to capture natural light and facilitate cross-ventilation. Strategic placement of balconies and other buffer spaces aided in protecting the interiors from harsh sunlight while promoting natural airflow.
And the positioning of spaces, such as bedrooms and living areas, takes advantage of prevailing winds to ensure a constant breeze and enhance comfort.
High ceiling and open floor plans contribute to a sense of spaciousness and airiness. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows flood the rooms with natural light and reflects the greens onto the glass making the house look larger than life.
The layout led from public to private spaces had a pattern that falls into place as all the rooms had individualistic unique properties of holding onto privacy. And the structural elements, such as cantilevered balconies and distinctive roof-lines, add a touch of drama and create a dynamic visual experience.
The exterior facade of a residential project serves as its identity, defining its presence in the surrounding landscape. Thus, materials like exposed concrete, bricks, steel are used on exterior facade to create an interplay of textures, colours, and light which further enhances the visual impact.
Sunlight is treated with reverence: the house takes advantage of this natural resource as much as possible and ensures a living environment that is nourished by the sun and air, and embraces the features of biophilic design. Every detail, from the space orientation to material selection, has been meticulously designed to enhance the overall ambiance of the living spaces.
The carefully chosen materials play a vital role in creating spaces that reflects our vision and also provides a tactile and sensory experience for the residents while encompassing a mindful consideration of aesthetics, functionality, durability, and sustainability.
