  • This Modern Indian Home Design Reflects Simplicity and Smart Planning | Olive Interiors

For this project, the client and US had a very clear vision for their home. The theme of this home design revolves around modern Indian thought with minimal furniture and maximum functional spaces. The furniture layout reflects efficient planning to accommodate the family of five in this cozy 3BHK. The use of single wooden laminate extends throughout the home with a combination of colors changing for every room. The home also showcases a bare (without false ceiling) ceiling with a variety of surface fittings to complete the look.

Editor’s Note: With earthy hues and intricate wooden details, Olive Interiors crafts this home into a delicacy of Indian decor. With the subtlety of rattan furniture and muted materials, the house forms a cozy space for its dwellers. While adding various textures with fabric, and some splash of green, the design overall brings in a serene aura to the house. ~Rajvi Dedakiya

The entrance of this home welcomes its owners with a warm, earthy tone nameplate wall and a show-stopper safety door with beautiful customized wooden turnings. The soft groove patterns at the entrance add detail to the otherwise simple drawback finished in limewash. A small shoe rack with seating completes the look for a cozy entryway.

    Entrance and Foyer

The inside foyer greets us with an intricate handcrafted art piece sourced from Rajasthan. The decorative hanging light with its play of shadows creates drama and adds character to the space. A small console unit provides small storage space for day-to-day items. Additionally, a hidden storage unit behind the main entry door takes care of all the excess storage for the family without disturbing its surroundings.

The foyer also holds a place for a stunning folding door in laminate and fluted glass, which stands between the living room and the parents room—perfect for hosting parties without disturbing the family members and allowing a private zone for the working couple.

    Living Space & Dining Area

The living area has a raw, earthy tone finished in limewash paint. The bar unit creates a focal point at the entry in black Duco paint and customized wallpaper.

Subtle curves merge the ceiling and walls for a more seamless look, while surface magnetic track lights serve as the major lighting element in this room.

To create a free-flowing and natural look, all the furniture in the living room remains movable, avoiding rigid fixed units. The sofa and dining table feature a contemporary finish in natural teak wood and rattan. A natural teak wood log forms the dining table top, adding organic character. Locally sourced natural bamboo blinds enhance the living room, introducing a raw element while maintaining a sustainable approach.

A stunning 3-piece hanging light creates a bold statement for the dining table. Fabricated legs with a natural teak wood log tabletop conclude the look for the dining table.

Amidst these elements stands a quiet Mandir unit in between the living and kitchen areas camouflaged in limewash and wooden laminate. Intricately finished with handsome lotus figures, its sides add a soft spiritual touch.

    Kitchen

The kitchen has a classic white and wood combination. Black granite countertops with Terrazzo white wall tiles add play to the area. Additionally, small black knobs add a characteristic feature. Thus, enhancing the look of the border frame cabinet shutters.

    modern indian home design

We wanted to avoid the use of typical aluminum profile handles for this kitchen; hence, we made use of customized concealed wooden J handles, which are user-friendly and also gave us the desired modern Indian look. The trending wooden vegetable and fruit drawers with ventilation cutouts have now replaced the traditional wicker baskets. A tall appliance unit with an adjacent pull-out pantry unit wraps up the kitchen requirements for this home.

    Parent’s Bedroom

The layout for parents’ bedroom is designed keeping in mind the small space of the room. Two single beds placed perpendicular to each other open up the room for circulation and also allow easier access to both parents. The designers created a window seating arrangement for the couple to enjoy the view during tea time or catch a splendid sunset. They also incorporated pullout drawers below each bed to fulfill the room’s storage requirements.

    Master Bedroom

The master bedroom of this project has beautiful two-sided open views of a neighboring park. The wardrobes comfortably sit behind the bedroom door in a niche. They have been designed using a natural rattan wallpaper roll paired with a walnut wooden laminate using soft curves at the edges.

The study table is combined with the TV unit to create a long tabletop, which adds more visual length to the room. Moreover, the dressing mirror holds storage behind with an in-built profile light fitting for perfect light.

A cute window seat along the bedside table provides a stunning view of the park for peaceful me time whenever needed. The bed back has also been designed in the flow of the wardrobes using the rattan wallpaper.

Ceiling magnetic track lights have been used for task and mood lighting. A small decorative light near the window seating acts as a statement piece to create a cozy nook. Full-height double curtains add flow and length to the room.

    Kids bedroom / Work room

This room is planned for multi-functional use. The wardrobe patterns add personality to the room and give it a playful vibe. The storage is planned such that it is usable for both an adult and eventually the child.

A standing cum seating work table arrangement helps the working mother to keep an eye on the kid during his playtime and also provides a suitable environment for her work. A bold, customized jungle-themed animal print wallpaper transforms the room into a fun play area. A simple sofa cum bed finishes the look for this room.
