This Minimal Design House Is Transformed From Scratch in The Heart of Mumbai | Pill Design Studio

“Pakeezah” is a carefully crafted 850 sq. ft. minimal design house, designed to house eight family members in the heart of Mumbai. Starting with a bare space, we transformed the home from scratch to meet the unique needs of each family member, all while maintaining a sense of openness and cohesion.

The primary challenge was accommodating all the family members in a small footprint without compromising comfort or functionality. To achieve this, we employed a minimalist approach, emphasizing simple, clean lines and soft corners.

Design Language

This design language helped ensure that the space did not feel bulky or overwhelming despite the large number of occupants. A neutral colour palette throughout the home maintained a sense of balance, with small, thoughtful gestures of colour introduced in individual rooms to add personality without disrupting the overall harmony of the space.

Common Areas

The common areas, including the living room, offer flexibility and ease. A non-conventional sofa-cum-bed in the living room allowed for space-saving while offering comfort and style. The half room includes a platform bed with storage for mattresses, providing sleeping space for two at night and serving as a multipurpose area during the day. The second bedroom accommodates two more, while the master bedroom suits the parents, all thoughtfully arranged for functionality and personalization.

Individuality with Unity

Recognizing the diverse tastes of the family members, the design carefully balanced individuality with unity. Soft design elements were chosen for the general elements, while each bedroom was given a touch of personal flavour that reflected the occupants’ preferences, creating a harmonious yet unique environment for all.

Despite the compact nature of the home, a great sense of relief is provided by the breath-taking views from the 46th-floor apartment, overlooking the Arabian Sea and the Haji Ali Dargah. These views infuse the home with light and air, offering an expansive feeling in an otherwise limited space.

Every square inch in this house speaks about togetherness. A simple and pure home, filled with spirituality, light, and laughter. This is Pakeezah.
