Colour takes centre stage in this luxury residence in Pune, shaping a vibrant yet cosy home for the Parekh family. Located in Pashan, one of Pune’s older suburban neighbourhoods, the residence enjoys a serene setting away from the city’s urban bustle. Its design balances vivid hues with a sense of comfort and calm. The result is a lively home that feels warm, personal and inviting.
Envisioned for Shweta and Dharmendra Parekh, this abode becomes their personal oasis of tranquillity. Built around the idea of tactile comfort, the luxury residence embraces slow, savoured living, with vivid hues taking centre stage. The couple shared a common vision with the design studio: to create spaces that feel minimal yet remain rich in character.

A home signifies many things, yet above all, it expresses comfort. It also becomes a holistic reflection of the people who dwell within it. The Parekh family bestowed us with the responsibility of creating a home that would become their sanctuary. They envisioned it to be bright, colour-laden and optimised in terms of its spatial flow. Striking a balance between colour, functionality, and ease of maintenance, we tailored this home to a T, checking every design parameter on the list,” shares Deep.
With the design grammar fixated on the maxim of ‘less is more’, this bijou dwelling steers clear of superfluous ornamentation. IThe design emphasises the overarching theme that brings the home together. The studio drew inspiration from the intricacies of the clients’ everyday lives, while their creative aspirations shaped and complemented the home’s defining design identity. Together, these ideas created a bespoke home tailored to the clients in every sense.
The creative design process and the final habitable outcome cannot exist as separate entities. The design process directly shapes how people experience and inhabit the finished space. The latterrelies abundantly on the formerfor direction and clarity! The dominant design style of the home visualises minimalism from a new lens, creating spaces which best represent who the family is intrinsically,” she adds. Subtle yet strong geometric forms and silhouettes debut across the home, manifesting in the form of curated materials and finishes that ground the spaces. Pastel tones, earthy materiality, textured fabrics, and doses of greenery make a homogeneous cameo across the dwelling’s canvas, reiterating the concept of a modern comfort-fused cocoon for the family.
An arched glass doorway beckons one indoors, bringing them into the heart of the residence. The living space is an ode to soft yet impactful narratives that colour and textures are capable of conjuring to life. Imagined as a portrait of greens, this area of thehome witnesses the family spending increased time together as they unwind, host, and congregate.
Enveloped in fluted panelling, the entrance section amalgamates with the larger living space, creating an uninterrupted visual. The house draws attention through its inherently zen-like character, with greenery appearing in myriad tones throughout the spaces. Deep describes the lush palette as reminiscent of a spring-inspired vignette.
The bipartite walls pair sage green with white, creating a dynamic visual rhythm around the room. The colour palette traces the room’s periphery and frames a series of arched portals. A cornice detail crowns the walls and seamlessly connects them to the white ceilings. The layered treatment adds depth while keeping the overall space light and cohesive. Commanding the room, a sumptuous olive-green sectional sofa demarcates the living area while exuding warmth. The space draws from Bohemian influences, layering curved furniture with textured fabrics and traditional earthen matkas. Sculptural lighting and sheer drapery soften the setting, while a curated collage of abstract art prints adds visual character. Together, these elements create a relaxed and expressive interior with a distinct Bohemian spirit. The television console wall features ashen wood tones, adding warmth to the space. This muted material palette reinforces the home’s rooted and natural character.
Bordering the living area, the lush balcony is perfect for revitalisation amidst nature. The balcony offers the family views of the outdoors while maintaining their privacy. An arched glass door connects it to the home through a short passageway. The passageway also houses a tucked-away prayer nook, keeping it separate from the communal areas. Built-in ledge seating runs along the balcony, creating a comfortable spot to sit and unwind. A petite rope swing adds a playful element to the space. Together, these features make the balcony an inviting setting for family gatherings and everyday outdoor moments.
The blueprint’s skeleton was accented with a multitude of arches, creating connections amidst various spatial thresholds. An intentional design feature, these archways create moments of pause and reflection as one traverses one space after another. The passage carries the home’s design language into its more intimate zones. A two-toned finish pairs sage green with white, creating a calm and cohesive palette. Contrasting black accents punctuate the palette, adding depth and definition to the bathroom.
Doused in a deep and moody sentiment, the child’s bedroom is a testament to neoteric design, which operates effectively within compact urban living. Also inhabited by the elders of the home over their visits, this bedroom is a beacon of versatility and flexible design. An assemblage of blue-grey wardrobes claims one edge of the bedroom, travelling on to compose a wee study nook perfect for remote working or for the child to comfortably carry out schoolwork.
This built-in unit continues as a concealed storage-filled headboard to the platform bed positioned over the dark wood deck. The bed’s view is oriented toward the artisanal ombre-style wallpaper, depicting misty hills-scapes in morphing shades of dark purple and lilac to create a soft gradient.
“The room’s design details have been envisaged keeping in mind the gradually evolving needs of the toddler. We wanted to ensure that the space assumed a neutral look and feel that could easily be modified per the child’s preferences over the years while making the most of the square footage,” explains the Designer
Surging with a spirited demeanour, the ensuite master bedroom is the client’s personal haven! “With ochre yellow prevailing as the hero within the room, the space enjoys an apparent energised and jubilant feel. The bedroom spills into the adjoining balcony, drawing in views of the hills within the suburban vicinity,” Deep adds.
Wardrobes finished in a bright ochre colour have been further embellished with fine moulding details and antique brass hardware, tipping its hat to timeless design nuances. The depth of the yellow tint is met by the grounding greys within the space, reflected in the wall colour and upholstered bed.
Adeptly designed open and closed storage makes the space function optimally while keeping the room pared down. Botanical inspiration is unmissable here with the bold floral wallpaper of blooming roses in yellows and greys. Taking a cue from a robust presence of colour, the master bath has been given a facelift with the feature wall lined in light coral-red subway tiles in a herringbone configuration within the otherwise muted white space.
With attention to detail helming the conception of Parekh House, the design DNA of the home remains sheerly uncomplicated. “Quirky and yet classic in many ways, this home feels like the truest representation of what our clients had their hearts set on! A far cry from fleeting trends, yet fresh in its make, Parekh House is playful and soothing simultaneously. It has transformed into a space within which they feel a sense of belonging while creating new memories with loved ones,” concludes the Principal Designer
Daylight permeates the master bedroom, making its way through the balcony to make the indoors brighter and lighter! The key feature within this zone is the monochrome patterned flooring which underscores the transition between the indoors and outdoors. “Providing the couple with a comfy spot outside, the balcony comprises a high-top black metal table and chairs, earthen planters, and umpteen greens. It makes for the perfect nook to grab coffee or converse as one ends their day! A space we thoroughly enjoyed putting together for them,” she shares.
