In the vibrant city of Ahmedabad, where tradition blends seamlessly with modernity, lies a 2000 sq.ft. four bedroom luxury apartment designed for a multigenerational family. This exquisite project, called ‘Whispers of Elegance,’ was crafted by Devanshi Doshi and Shivam Vaidya of Studio Deshi. The design merges diverse generational preferences within a minimalist framework, creating a home that is both luxurious and deeply personal.
Editor’s Note: “Set in Ahmedabad, this modern Indian residence masterfully blends subtle tones with the rich warmth of wood, creating a harmonious balance of elegance and comfort. The open-plan layout, accented by intricate partitions, defines spaces while maintaining an inviting flow throughout. Each corner reveals a story of grace and serenity, echoing the unique essence and personalities of its residents, making the home a true sanctuary.” ~Simran Khare

These spaces can disconnect and connect with each other as per the functional requirement and can dynamically change through spatial elements. The custom brass screen divides the formal living and dining area.
A harmonious blend of neutral tones and warm teak wood welcomes visitors, embodying the essence of understated luxury. The formal living area in contemporary modern Indian style upon entering is separated by a rotating brass screen.
The long linear central space in the four bedroom apartment is divided into two living spaces and a dining area at the heart, connecting perpendicularly with the kitchen.
The mandir at the end of the passage, the customised zodiac signs on the kitchen panelling, the chandelier, etc. add a subtle elegance and luxury to the space while keeping the overall palette minimal and neutral.
Just as the different zodiac signs and personalities of the five, the house is a nod to unity amidst individuality.
This wall was transformed into a custom designed panelling serving as a backdrop and cohesively uniting all three spaces along with the teak wood ceiling.
A unique client request led to the creation of the moving kitchen wall. This moving wall, when open, connects the kitchen to the living and dining space via a small breakfast counter.
With its strategic placement and elegant design, the dining table becomes a focal point where family and friends come together to share memorable meals.
At the heart of the home, the dining area shines with a stunning brass mesh chandelier, embodying the spirit of togetherness and celebration.
Whether the sliding door to the kitchen is open or closed, the design remains uninterrupted. The design incorporates the five golden circles, each etched with the minimal graphics of the zodiac signs of each family member, adding a personal touch.
The parent’s bedroom exudes simplicity and spaciousness. Soft sage green tones with teak wood form a calming palette. A cozy reading corner doubles as their favourite spot for evening tea.
It’s a space that embodies serenity and relaxation. The Indo-modern style is exemplified with traditional miniature artworks paying homage to their heritage.
Embracing a playful Bohemian spirit, the daughter’s bedroom features vibrant tones and textures that reflect her unique personality.
The use of cane with teak wood gives it a distinct playful personality with tones of peach and curves adding a feminine and softer touch to the space.
The dark Prussian blue stain on veneer for the headboard and bench panelling against a bright wall panelling creates a captivating design antithesis, reflecting the couple’s contrasting yet harmonious personalities.
‘Whispers of Elegance’ is an ode to India’s rich cultural fabric, successfully combining luxury with functionality. This home stands as a celebration of individuality and togetherness, resonating with the essence of family in modern India.
