When I first stepped into this west facing house, I was immediately struck by the potential for transformation. The clients’ vision was clear: they wanted a space that seamlessly blended old and new, reflecting their personalities while showcasing sophisticated design.
This House Facing West Seamlessly Blended Old and New | Redbeam Studio
The house for two also had many challenges in terms of storage solutions and rectifying old construction with creative solutions. This project wasn’t just about creating a beautiful interior; it was about crafting a deeply personal sanctuary that would evolve with its owners.
The living room serves as the heart of the home, anchored by a striking wallpapered feature wall. Here, we curated a collection of unique furniture pieces, each telling its own story.
A distinctively shaped mirror adds visual interest, while the bar area boasts intricate storage solutions and floating shelves.
The pink sofa, a bold centrepiece, is complemented by my own painting hanging above—a personal touch that brings the space to life.
The kitchen exemplifies smart design in action. A sliding door allows it to seamlessly blend with the living area when open, creating an expanded sense of space. We even incorporated a cozy seating area by the window, perfect for enjoying the breathtaking views with the morning coffee.
Colour plays a crucial role throughout the home, creating a cohesive yet dynamic atmosphere. The green hue of the master bedroom’s headboard wall echoes the entry door, while the living room’s arched accent mirrors the kitchen tiles. This thoughtful colour connection weaves the spaces together, creating a harmonious flow.
The master bedroom is a testament to personal touches and clever design. We transformed an existing sliding wardrobe by applying a regal palace-print wallpaper, instantly elevating the space.
The addition of a mirror expands the room visually. The bathroom entrance, flanked by elegant lamps, evokes the grandeur of a palace.
Perhaps the most cherished element is the headboard, where we incorporated fabrics from the clients’ mother’s sarees—a deeply emotional connection to family history.
In the guest room, which doubles as an entertainment hub, we embraced vibrant yellow tones. This multifunctional space features a sofa bed, a library nook, and a gaming area complete with a PlayStation. As a photographer, I was honoured to contribute three of my own pieces to the room’s decor, further personalising the space.
Throughout the project, we focused on creating spaces that serve multiple purposes without sacrificing style. Each room was designed with its specific use in mind, resulting in a home that’s both highly functional and visually stunning. The mix of old and new elements, carefully curated and reimagined, come together in a harmonious blend that feels both fresh and timeless.
This home is more than just a beautiful interior—it’s a reflection of the people who live here. From the repurposed family heirlooms to the custom artwork, every element tells a story. The result is a sophisticated yet deeply personal haven, where modern design meets cherished memories. As I reflect on this project, I’m reminded of why I love interior design. It’s about understanding people, solving challenges creatively, and crafting environments that truly enhance daily life. In this home, we’ve created more than just a stylish space—we’ve designed a personalised space that will continue to inspire and comfort its owners for years to come.
