This Heritage Restoration Revives a Classic Bungalow for Modern Hospitality | Hohm Interior Design Studio

The design is kept classical to maintain the chastity of the original heritage bungalow. This heritage restoration project is now a part of Taj Ama Villas, and they run it as a homestay in the Nilgiris.

Editor’s Note: “This classic bungalow in Coonoor nestles between the folds of time and terrain. With old-world charm and sunny gardens, each room is a gentle reminder of joy, tradition, and home. Mount Pleasant Villa is a true staycation hideaway is an invitation to slow down and live with elegance and moderate luxury.” ~ Anusha Sridhar

Foyer

The entrance foyer with its sage green door and printed tiles gives a warm welcome to the entire vast open layout of the bungalow. Moreover, it opens the complete expanse of space to the visitor.

Living Area

The living space follows a minimal approach, with the antique teak furniture being the highlight.

The common areas are all interconnected to give the feeling of space. The 8-seater large antique dining table with its rattan and wood chairs takes center stage as the coffee cabinet and crockery console complete the space with balance.

Bedrooms

The bedroom, 5 in number, is all well thought of ensuite, complete with its own wardrobes and privacy. Each bedroom has its own feature of a fireplace or a window seat with a view, etc., each being special in its own way, as all bedrooms go as a package in the Taj Group’s homestay website and need to be distinct on their own.

The sunroom overlooking the huge garden is my favorite, with the coral couch, a perfect view, greens, and the fireplace. Perfect for any staycation home to curl up and read or just have tea overlooking the most gorgeous landscapes.
