The character of a home is defined by the people that live in it and the lives they aspire to live. Their homes might not define them but they definitely define their homes. And to help them bring that to life is the biggest honor and the biggest achievement of our lives as interior designers and architects. One such project was this minimalistic home we designed for Dr. Sandeep Gupta and his wife in the quaint city of Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

Soothing color tones, minimalistic aesthetics and zen vibe is what describes this home for a family of 4. R.A.I. Architects. To achieve the goals with the brief given, we used wooden flooring in contrast to plain white walls to achieve the minimalist, comfortable, welcoming and warm atmosphere for the members of the family.
For the main entrance, we wanted to create a calm space where one could feel at ease. And hence, we kept the colors light and warm, and used wooden material to give the feeling of a sanctuary.
Entrance Foyer : This would act as a welcoming passage where anyone who came would be encouraged to leave the chaos outside upon entering. To give it a sanctuary like feel, we used earthy tones with the touch of a Zen style painting visible as you open the door to the entrance and a statue of the Buddha on the wooden runner-cum-storage rack.
The hall and the balcony have a seamless transition that allows one to separate the two spaces while still being connected.
The Hall & Dining Area: For the hall, we used concrete texture on the walls around the TV unit to make the space feel more earthy. The colors used in the hall are to compliment the aesthetics of the balcony.
Attached to the formal living room is the family’s dining area where a big dining table made of real teak wood is placed. The dining table is kept simple in design and comfortable for the family to be able to enjoy long conversations over food.
The Balcony : The balcony is a true extension of the living space. It has a wooden swing and seating space surrounded by greenery to bring some life into the house. It gives that garden-like feel where one can read or enjoy a cup of tea or listen to some music in peace. It also has a bar cabinet so that it can also be a perfect place to host a small group of friends or family over a couple of drinks.
The Kitchen : Keeping in line with the brief, the house kitchen is one of its most striking features. Modern, modular and compact to provide ample storage space, it is all white and open.
The Corridor : For the corridor, we wanted to create a space that would act as a barrier that separates the private spaces, i.e., the bedrooms, from the public (communal) space, i.e., the hall.
To achieve this, we used warm lighting and blue color in the corridor with black and white flooring patterns to create a luxurious yet soothing transition. This acts like a portal through which you can switch between your various roles in life.
The Rooms : Each room has a different color palette matching the personality of the individuals occupying it. These spaces are kept minimal and functional, keeping in line with the theme of the entire house.
Neutral colors and warm tones create a soothing environment to relax and calm down peacefully at the end of the day.
