This Contemporary House Style With Traditional Indian Charm | Quirk Studio

The clients are an older couple who enjoy visits from their daughter and frequent guests. They desired a home that encapsulated contemporary design with touches of Indian heritage and bursts of color.

The design team, therefore, embraced the India Modern style, seamlessly blending traditional elements with contemporary finishes. However, this is to create an atmosphere that reflects the clients’ unique tastes and lifestyle.

Predominantly featuring shades of blue, green, and pops of red, the color palette harmonizes with a neutral backdrop and hints of brass. Thus, reflecting the clients’ love for greenery and vibrant hues.

Situated in a location with expansive sea views, the design intends to integrate the surroundings into the home’s aesthetic. Stone finish tiles adorn the common areas, avoiding the typical marble flooring. Black and white border inlays in the entrance and passages along with a carpet tile inlay in the dining area, introduce subtle Indian aesthetics.

Thoughtful Space Planning

The entrance passage, leading into the home, is flanked by a sliding glass door to the kitchen on the left and a study/guest room on the right. The study is equipped with a floor-to-ceiling unit, a sofa cum bed, and a recliner chair, catering to the client’s work-from-home needs.

The living room is divided into two distinct seating areas. The formal section comprises an L-shaped sofa and two armchairs, while the informal area features a curved sofa, a swing, and a bookshelf, creating a cozy, relaxed ambiance. A custom wallpaper with molding detail adds a personalized touch behind the formal seating.

Adjacent to the living area is the dining space, which boasts floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that can enclose the area for privacy. A feeling of warmth is added by the wooden ceiling, while a sliding folding window connects the dining area to the kitchen, enhancing the sense of openness.

The daughter’s bedroom is a blend of Jaisalmer stone, rattan, and shades of green, evoking a calm and earthy feel.

The master bedroom, with its walk-in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom, is understated yet elegant, featuring wood, textured paint, and brass accents. The wardrobe shutters alternate between tinted glass and linen fabric, adding a touch of sophistication.

Notable Attributes

The home’s lofty ceilings allowed for the incorporation of tall doors and arch details in the passage openings. Moreover, it mimics the curvature of the ceiling. Customized decorative lights, art, and curtains throughout the home reflect a commitment to bespoke design. Additionally, it creates a characteristic design narrative.

The project’s strength lies in its seamless blend of contemporary and Indian aesthetics, intelligent space planning, and attention to detail in every space. Thus, offering a comfortable yet personalized living experience.

Balancing minimalism and minimalism was a significant challenge for the design team, who typically focus on clean-lined, contemporary spaces. Striking this balance required careful consideration and innovative solutions to ensure the design felt neither overly sparse nor cluttered.

Material Palette

The materials chosen—stone finish tiles, walnut wood, Jaisalmer stone, rattan, brass, and textured paints—work in tandem to create a cohesive design scheme. Moreover, these materials complement and balance the dual focus on the simplicity and intricacy of Indian Modern design style.

This residence stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of modern design principles and timeless Indian elements. Overall, it creates a space that is both elegant and deeply personal. Every element, from the grand to the subtle, comes together to create a timeless space.
