Situated in the heart of the bustling city centre of Mumbai, this high-floor duplex coastal apartment caters to a young family. It blends contemporary elegance with the whimsy of daily life and travel, akin to their renowned fashion label. The residence on the 45th floor overlooking the sea, provides the setting for the entire abode to be inspired by the beach. With overall simplicity and elegance of material and colour palette representing the sand, the use of handpicked quirky pieces of furniture in the house is like finding rare treasures.
This Coastal Apartment Caters To A Young Family While Overlooking The Sea | Mind Manifestation Design
The lower floor of the coastal apartment boasts a unique layout. It comprises 50% enclosed areas and 50% triple-height terrace, harmoniously integrating the outdoors with the indoors. To break the rigidity of the floor plate, curves were introduced. They add a sense of fluidity and movement throughout the space.
Following the owner’s decision about avoiding rugs on the floor, the design team ingeniously devised an in situ casted terrazzo floor pattern. It gracefully flows from the staircase to the living area. It extends uninterrupted onto the terrace, terminating in a planter box.
The flooring pattern, flowing seamlessly from inside to out, serves as a visual connector. It makes the floor plate appear more expansive and cohesive. Here, the terrace becomes an active extension of the common areas. Such as the living, dining, and guest bedroom, blurring the boundaries between inside and out.
Indoors, a multipurpose room caters to various needs with a work desk, TV area, and part-time bed setup, while the master bedroom embodies fluidity and fashion sensibility, with a symmetric arched bed back wall inspired by Indian art.
To add play to the kids’ bedroom, we incorporated a raised platform adjacent to the bed. The guest bedroom on the lower floor blends with the outdoor wooden flooring, further emphasising the indoor-outdoor relationship.
Additionally, the kitchen layout incorporates a serving window and counter that extends to the terrace, facilitating interaction between sheltered cooking and outdoor dining experiences. The use of in situ dining and bench features further enhances this connectivity, creating a harmonious transition between interior and exterior spaces.
With meticulous attention to detail reflecting the essence of the clients’ personalities, every element of this residence has been carefully curated. The interweaving of active and passive spaces fosters a sense of unity and harmony, providing a serene escape within Mumbai’s lively cityscape.
