This 15 years old structure needed some vibrancy to help revive the ambience. Improving light and ventilation with minimum demolition was the main challenge. Introducing the courtyard House  was the most natural way of achieving this. The Courtyard balances the existing double height Living room and helps to break the verticality of space.

This creates a breathing pocket of 6’ X 16’ along the northern edge of the living room, which helps in natural ventilation and keeps the internal environment regulated.

The skylight above courtyard enhances the light quality which allows us to experience the material in its natural form.

The courtyard has three distinct elements Alba tree, sit out area and water body. Carefully selected material pallet helps enhance the space experience. Wire cut brick wall provides a contrasting background to Alba tree and water body. Leather finish steel grey granite is used for sit-out which gives a rustic touch. A beautiful light and shadow play is observed throughout the year. Overall the project reflects the balance between modernist traditional approach.

An earthy palette of materials from interior to exterior helps one connect better towards nature. This palette consist of light flooring material, grey granite, lightly shaded and printed types of sofa fabrics, wooden finishes used in interior elements, exposed bricks used in wall, alba tree and water, etc.Green sofa fabric is like a cherry on the cake with wooden handrest. Apart from this, the splash of colors is used in cushions to enhance the ambience of the interior and give a dramatic touch to otherwise natural hue’s crafted interior.

An amalgamation of various styles of furniture pieces is seen from traditional Indian to modern sofa and classical style TV unit simply crafted with single or multiple materials. Each furniture piece here has a different story, from outdoor sitting chairs to the indoor side table. Overall the ambience is created to enhance the natural environment and beauty of nature. Also, there is distinguished crafted sofa cum Indian seating with multiple elements each of different style from legs to backrest and seating.

Exposed brick wall with grey granite skirting and floor enhances the courtyard especially in the water body where finely crafted border of grey granite is binding just below the skirting to give a picture-perfect view of finely crafted details. Pergolas in courtyard help to create a sense of enclosure along with safety and other criteria.

The court with pergola brings a shower of light from top and water at the bottom with tree and exposed brick wall with wall scone light helps to create a serene and calm environment in the court. The amalgamation of various kinds of bonds is used in wall to create an alluring aesthetic.
