Situated in the corner of a high lane, the 3550 sqft bakery design is in the prime location of Indiranagar. Architecture articulates spaces where people connect, pause, and initiate meaningful dialogues. With this notion in mind, Raajan Sharma from Merak Studio Bangalore transformed the Labonel fine bakery store’s design of homemade and fresh baked goods into a soulful dining experience.

“When it comes to food, the essence lies in the dish’s smell, taste, and presentation. Inspired by it the Labonel resembles the artistic flair, visual expressions, and sensory touch of the myriad materials with surprising elements to create a dramatic sense for the users” expresses Raajan Sharma. Every element of the flagship store was expressed with shades of detail in the light of balance, rhythm, and flow of the space. The tale of Labonel evolves with spontaneous creation in a moment, without any physical illustrations but instead attuned to the site’s context and ideology of the brand.
The entrance of this bakery design with minimalist geometry conveys a bold statement. It whispers an invitation to engage onlookers without setting foot inside. Intrigued and curious about the space beyond the black stone staircase, one approach unfolds into a glimpse of tranquility. The unseen background unfolds as the serene blue colour counter is illuminated by exquisite hanging light radiating a calm aura over the space within the frame of a single arch. The curated scene dances with mystery and allure. The intrigued gaze of scattered dots on a plane spurs the playful interest that invites the users. As one draws nearer, the compositions are demonstrated, with profundity and stucco-textured surfaces transforming into sublime beauty.
The mirrored ceiling creates the illusion of a double story that tantalises the vision. The black marble floor underneath the mirrored ceiling exudes a dark allure, with each step reflecting the shine of royalty. As one passes the entry foyer, the brushed brass, embossed delicately with a touch of elegance, dances along the borders. The stroke of brass against the warm wood narrates the tales of craftsmanship and engagement to detail, inviting one to pause and reflect while passing through.
As one opens the wide glass door, the eyes are drawn to the visually appealing centre space, the monolithic counter, which is Labonel’s heart. The counter, wrapped in the brand’s signature blue hue and decorated with a crown of pristine white marble, resembles more than just a surface for transactions.
The detail of the fluted patterns on the counter creates a sense of textural harmony, a visual symphony that entices the senses. The stylish and durable coffee table of sturdy wooden surfaces and PU paint is the heart of the space, inviting the customer on a journey of taste and discovery.
The captivating drama unfolds beneath the feet, where the juxtaposition of pristine white marble graced with sleek black marble lines breathes life and depth into the space. A contrast of white expanse breaks with black marble strips, a mesmerising imprint that creates beauty with no bounds. At the same time, each line of black strips mirrors the grid pattern of the coffered ceiling above, weaving a symmetrical expression with every glance. The coffered ceiling with its intricate patterns creates an illusion of height that glorifies the space.
Warm daylight filters a gentle ray onto the display of products. The sunlight passes through the arched windows, casting a backdrop against the display tables, infusing a sense of timelessness. Each detail symbolises the minutest contemplation of craftsmanship. Delta lights seamlessly merge into the ceiling, and their square frames transform into elegant curves when a false ceiling is cast, a subtle adaptation that expresses the artistry of creation. The light becomes an art form; every touch and shadow tell a story that visitors relate to in a tapestry of ambiance.
The hues of blue shades, salmon pink chairs, a neutral tone of stucco texture, and black marble flooring with brass strips embossed on a wooden surface set the stage for the drama to unfold. The smoked walnut wood infuses the air with a sense of comfort. In contrast, upholstery in shades of pink, blue, and green dances like a burst of sunlight on a cloudy day. Thus, it adds depth and vibrance to the place.
In the bustling city, an intangible space emerges like a mirage of opulence and splendor. The spirit of the brand comes to life with each detail woven into every corner. It blends with the tangible expressions of creativity.
The presence of plant life blends into the interior, breathing life into every corner. Beyond the confines of the bakery, planter boxes and their leafy foliage wrap the space. It is a soft touch blurring the boundaries between inside and outside with a pleasing presence.
The salmon pink chairs with a whimsical Victorian chic design and marble top tables evoke a refreshed and home-baked feel. It invites the users to sink into their embrace of warmth and comfort. A space for interactions, delicious joys, and a story of connection are welcomed through the soothing natural beauty.
From soft light entering the social space to the textures that tickle the fingertips evokes a sensory delight. It is a harmonious blend of sound, sight, and sensations that enfold users in a cocoon of extravagance. It is not just aesthetic ornamentation that intrigues the eyes but an exquisite experience that stays long. The space reflects the brand’s identity even after departing the space.
