Set amid lush green fields and fertile black soil in Akluj, this farmhouse draws its identity from the land it occupies. The design intent was to create a home that blends seamlessly into its surroundings—rooted in context, measured in expression, and timeless in character.
Set Amidst The Green Fields Of Rural Maharashtra Is This Minimal Home | Studio A&D
Envisioned as a retreat from the city, the house opens outward at every opportunity. Spaces are oriented towards expansive views of the green fields and the sky, which allows the landscape to become a part of daily living. A veranda defines the formal entrance, which functions as a threshold that mediates between the outdoors and the interior.
The ground floor accommodates the living room, dining area, and kitchen as a series of connected spaces that encourage open spaces and interaction. A sculptural partition subtly screens the stairs and nearby private areas.
The son’s bedroom follows a restrained palette, where blue accents complement custom-designed furniture and a window seat. A daughter’s bedroom is located on this level. It offers ease of access and maintains privacy.
The first floor houses the family room and the master suite. Designed as an informal gathering space, the family room features relaxed seating, a jhula, and uninterrupted views of the surrounding greenery at eye level.
A compact bar counter and home theatre are seamlessly integrated. A custom-designed barn door conceals a pantry and powder bathroom, doubling as a functional artwork.
The master suite is conceived as a calm sanctuary, defined by a layered material palette. A wooden bed with a curved veneer headboard, botanical wallpaper, and full-height wardrobes transitioning into a curved dressing unit lend warmth and continuity to the space.
Large windows with integrated seating and layered blinds allow soft, soft light. They frame large views of the landscape around.
Rooted in simplicity, material honesty, and contextual design, the farmhouse reflects a quiet, deliberate approach to living—one that prioritises comfort, connection to nature, and enduring elegance.
