We thrive on creating diverse and unique spaces. For this 1100 sq ft apartment in Powai, we embraced the client’s desire for a distinctive nordic interior design theme in every room, ensuring each space has its character and charm.
Editor’s Note: “An 1100 sq. ft apartment in Powai embodies Nordic interior design ensuring each area has its distinct charm. Starting from a Scandinavian story in the living area, a Manhattan-themed guest room, a wabi-sabi master bedroom, to a daughter’s room in shades of Sakura, the design manages the balance of muted tones with textures and materials while cultivating connections.” ~ Anusha Sridhar
Nordic Interior Design Ensures Each Space Has Its Own Character and Charm | Studio Rohini Bagla
The design journey began with Nordic-Scandinavian theme for the hall, featuring muted colours, textured paint walls, and chevron wooden panels. Additionally, wooden elements and greens were added to create a lively and rustic ambiance.
The standout feature is the “Dining-nook”, an L-shaped dining area that serves as a gathering spot for family and friends, complete with a space for books and niches. It is beyond a dining space, it’s a place where people gather and conversations happen.
The entrance exudes a rustic charm, highlighted by a cane hanging lamp that creates intricate patterns when lit. Additionally, it sets a warm and inviting tone right from the door step.
The kitchen brings a splash of colours with off-white and green-colour hues.
The studio cum guest room caters to the client’s love for music and Manhattan memories. Thus, featuring wallpapers with a street view of Manhattan, reminiscing their days in New York.
The master bedroom blends wabi-sabi with Indian elements. The walls in the room has a rustic wash, giving it an earthy touch. The headboard of the bed has beautiful Indian motifs, the wardrobe has an interesting cane pattern on the doors, the study desk also has a clean rustic look with a wabi-sabi feel. Additionally, the colours are muted with earthy tones.
The daughter’s room is vibrant, combining white, beige, pink, and blue colours which itself blooms like Sakura in the entire apartment. It includes a unique rotating shelf, ample play space, and large pink board where she can pin her ideas and creations. The room is vibrant and colourful in comparison to other rooms in the house with the combination of colours such as white, beige, and pink. The pink wallpaper binds the theme of sakura serenity altogether.
All wardrobes feature a PU finish, and the house utilizes open grain veneer for a refined look. A mood board guided the design process, with a particular emphasis on sustainable materials like natural cane and wood. Each element and detail was thoughtfully chosen to reflect the client’s personality and preferences, culminating in a home that is both stylish and deeply personal. My personal favourite feature to design was the dining nook, a perfect blend of functionality and aesthetic, where natural cane and wood were incorporated as sustainable alternatives.
