Having their primary home in Goa, where space is a luxury, transforming this 1000-square-foot area into a spacious, functional abode was a challenge. The client’s brief was to create a home that invoked a sense of calm and relaxation, with the most important aspect being not just a look but a way of living in Goa.
Mumbai Abode Invokes a Sense of Calm and Relaxation Like a Home in Goa | Crimzon Oak LLP
We started this home with a brief to redesign all the furniture, focusing on styling and working around the existing structure, but ended up breaking down the entire house and starting from scratch.
We took a minimalist approach and created an open floor plan with lots of light, limited ornamentation, a neutral colour scheme, and functional furniture for this family of three.
The living room pulls together all the key elements, like streamlined seating, a plush sofa, organic shapes, earthy hues with pops of colour, standout patterns, and textural finishes, without overwhelming the environment.
The resulting area offers form and function that work as well for family movie nights as for adults-only cocktail parties. Neutral walls, wooden flooring, a flat-weave rug, and cool kitchen tones provide an airy contrast.
The dining table was carved out of the common wall of the kitchen and living area to give the compact living room a sense of depth and bring in light while making it a conversational breakfast/dinner table that also doubles up as a serving counter for get-togethers.
The kitchen is light and muted, with all the new cabinets made with flat-panel doors and brass hardware that pops against the ivory.
A soft shade of green is introduced through the splash back kit- kat tiles. It has the hints of oak wood to tie it together with the rest of the house.
The master bedroom and daughter’s bedroom have a clear, pared-down aesthetic where texture and material play an important role in adding visual interest.
Smooth wood, brushed metal, and natural fabrics add warmth. Meanwhile integrated storage solutions keep surfaces clear and maintain a tidy appearance.
Statement light fixtures add personality without overwhelming the environment. Personal touches such as photographs, meaningful decor items, and travel souvenirs reflect the personality and preferences of the occupants.
For the master bathroom, we decided to use yet another soft hue in bold stripes, one of the most classic patterns of all time. This ensures that even the smallest rooms in the home reflect the overall theme of relaxation and calmness.
Overall, the design successfully achieves a balance between aesthetics and functionality, creating a home that not only looks beautiful but also supports a relaxed and comfortable lifestyle. The thoughtful integration of elements like light, colour, texture, and personalization ensures that every aspect of the home contributes to the client’s desired way of living.
