How the Home has differed since the Covid pandemic

Since the Covid pandemic, home is where most people spend their time. This inevitably changes the dynamics of how any household will be run. For the first time in many people’s lives, they may have to spend all day in the house with their families.

Let’s take a look to how people have adapted to this new situation:

Creating a workspace inside the home

Now that people don’t have the luxury of having an office that they go to every day, the way they organise their home is key to making sure that they are productive. Zoom calls with employers or simple phone calls require a certain amount of privacy that your home might not provide. Reorganisation of a household is important to making sure that people separate their home life from their work life. Turning a spare room into a workspace can be key to making sure that the transition is smooth. Tailor made office furniture is an excellent way to create this necessary situation and make it more comfortable to work at home.

Creating a space for the family

Being that the only people that most of us are going to interact with are the members of their household, creating an environment that is conducive to positive comradery is important. Research has shown that the living room has actually become the most popular room in the home with people spending almost 7 hours a day in their living rooms during the pandemic. This is because this is where most of the socialisation takes place. Ensuring that the living room is as comfortable as possible is key to making sure that the members of your household are more comfortable.

The kitchen

Before the Covid pandemic people spent an average of 1 hour 47 minutes in the kitchen every day, a survey by Hammonds has found. The average time has now increased to 3 hours 25 minutes per day, according to the study. Not having the luxury to eat out or order food at work is probably the reason for this huge change. Preparing meals at home has become much more common place.

Refurnishing the home

Reorganising the household might require refurnishing the house. Replacing new furniture or simply moving furniture from one room to another is something many people may have had to do. Turning a bedroom into an office or turning a living room into a bedroom might be some of the challenges that people have faced during this time.

Renovations

The home being the place where people spend the most time might encourage them to make renovations that they put off in the past. Painting a spare room that might need to be a guest room or fixing a door on a back porch is something that seems more necessary now that people are at home more often. And let’s not forget the simple changes to the dynamics of a household that might require you to make changes to the places where you live to make them more comfortable.

In conclusion, the home has now become the place where people spend most of their time. This has made life very different for everyone. People now socialise with their families and work in the same exact space.

With many forced to work from home, rooms changed their purpose and became home offices. Living rooms and kitchens and bathrooms have also seen a rise in renovations with homeowners now having the time to do the renovations they had been putting off.
