Harbour View rises above Mumbai’s ever-evolving skyline as a thoughtfully designed three-bedroom residence. The home reimagines urban living through warmth, comfort, and understated elegance. Designed for a young family of three, it offers a retreat from the city’s relentless pace. Natural materials, calming aesthetics, and meaningful design shape its sophisticated yet personal character. While the apartment enjoys sweeping views of the harbour and city beyond, the design narrative extends far beyond the vistas outside its windows. At its core, Harbour View is a story about creating a sanctuary within the city—one that celebrates togetherness, embraces natural light, and supports the rhythms of everyday life.
The homeowners approached Zorkah Design Company with a simple yet compelling brief: to create a home that felt contemporary without being stark, elegant without feeling formal, and timeless enough to evolve with the family over the years. They desired interiors that reflected their personalities while remaining practical for daily living. The design balances functionality with warmth throughout the home. Refined spaces remain inviting and comfortable enough for everyday living.

Drawing inspiration from modern organic design principles, subtle farmhouse influences, and contemporary classic detailing, the home unfolds through a carefully curated palette of natural materials, layered textures, and handcrafted elements. Every design decision aims to create spaces that feel grounded, authentic, and effortlessly comfortable.
Upon entering the residence, the home immediately creates an atmosphere of calm. Soft neutral walls create a serene backdrop, allowing natural textures and thoughtfully selected furnishings to take centre stage. Delicate wall mouldings introduce architectural character and lend a sense of timeless elegance, while warm timber flooring laid in a herringbone pattern establishes continuity throughout the home.
Natural light became one of the defining design elements of the project. Large windows frame expansive views while filling the interiors with changing patterns of light throughout the day. Rather than competing with the spectacular surroundings, the interiors were designed to complement them. The palette remains intentionally restrained, allowing light, texture, and materiality to shape the experience of each space.
The living room serves as the heart of the home—a space where family members gather, unwind, and connect. Designed to feel open yet intimate, the room combines soft, tactile materials with strong architectural lines. A textured neutral sofa anchors the seating arrangement, while a caramel leather accent chair introduces warmth and visual contrast. Together, they create a composition that feels both sophisticated and welcoming.
A live-edge wooden coffee table occupies the centre of the room, celebrating the natural beauty of timber through its organic form and rich grain patterns. Layered textiles, woven rugs, and carefully curated accessories further enrich the space, creating an environment that encourages relaxation and conversation. Above, contemporary artwork and brass-accented lighting add refinement while maintaining the home’s understated aesthetic.
Throughout the apartment, materiality plays a pivotal role in shaping the design narrative. Cane detailing appears repeatedly across furniture and cabinetry, introducing texture and craftsmanship while reinforcing the home’s connection to nature. Warm oak finishes, black metal accents, natural fabrics, and subtle brass highlights work together to create a cohesive language that flows seamlessly from one room to the next.
The dining area embodies this approach beautifully. Anchored by a striking live-edge dining table, the space celebrates the authenticity of natural materials. The sculptural quality of the table transforms it into more than just a functional piece; it becomes a focal point that encourages gathering and shared experiences. Cane-backed dining chairs with leather upholstery continue the dialogue between comfort and craftsmanship, while custom cabinetry provides both storage and visual depth.
One of the most distinctive aspects of Harbour View is its emphasis on bespoke detailing. Rather than relying on decorative excess, the design focuses on thoughtful interventions that enhance everyday living. Custom furniture pieces were designed specifically for the project, ensuring that each element responded to the unique spatial requirements of the home while contributing to the overall aesthetic vision.
The study nook exemplifies this philosophy. Compact yet highly functional, it transforms an otherwise overlooked corner into a dedicated workspace filled with character. Positioned near natural light and framed by textured drapery, the area balances productivity with comfort. The custom desk, woven chair, and floating shelves create a setting that feels integrated into the larger design story rather than treated as a separate functional zone.
Texture serves as one of the home’s most powerful design tools. Bouclé upholstery, woven cane, natural linens, handcrafted ceramics, timber surfaces, and soft textiles come together to create layers of visual and tactile richness. These elements introduce depth while ensuring that the neutral palette never feels monotonous. Instead, the interiors reveal themselves gradually through subtle contrasts and carefully orchestrated details.
The use of greenery throughout the residence further strengthens its connection to nature. Indoor plants, dried botanical arrangements, and organic decorative objects soften the architecture and contribute to a sense of wellbeing. These natural elements help blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors, reinforcing the home’s tranquil atmosphere.
