Editor’s Note: Led through a studded stone pathway, Projected Rays have created Chandigarh’s next ambiance and food destination by inculcating the limelight elements. A sensory continuum of swayed waves along the ceiling, flooring, and walls, the textures of different surfaces are highlighted by the golden rays of warm light. The entrance corridor was the introduction to the inside that was to follow. Tile was cut into specific sizes in both matt and gloss finish to knit together a modern version of the tradition Indian carpet.
The curve entrance door was depictive of the traditional arched darwaza commonly used in indian architecture. Cladded in marble with the designer wooden door which is just transparent enough to give a glimpse of the inside and lure the diner inside.
The ceiling is the main protagonist in this design. A fluidic form was derived and the complete script was built around the river concept from ceiling to flooring.
Located in Punjab – the land of 5 rivers the design tooks it own direction and thus the l shaped sitting plan was planned. The rear green view also contributed in the planning of the layout plan.
A story the starts at the artistic reception moves around the central area takes a thrilling turn while experiencing the outdoors and culminates into the bar at the end.
There were multiple columns and ducts on the site. Challenge was to make them a part of the storyline. The columns were given a wooden finish to represent trees growing along the river bank and ducts wrapped in curvilinear walls to represent the meandering bank itself.
The only plain wall available which was majorly visible from multiple sitting spaces in the layout was given a sculptural cladding which further sets the mood . it was treated as a contoured relief wall in wood with rustic cracks.
After a lot of though given a copper look complimenting to the serving ‘tamba handi‘ traditionally used in Indian restaurants. This adds in making the whole atmosphere unique and visually stimulating.
The monochrome look of the texture was derived from the vibrant colours of the north Indian cuisinge and the spices used in the Indian cooking – turmeric and saffron.
Contoured walls and ceiling in this fine dine setup seaminglessly merge and creates a unique and visually appealing environment that creates an intriguing experience. The use of curve adds a semse of rhythm to the space, making it more dynamic and soothing to the eyes.
Instead of using the tradition arches which have over the time been used in Indian interiors we decided to incorporate the curve as a totally different dialogue representing the traditional dining vibe.
