Few homes are celebrated for their iconic interiors, while some are celebrated for their open layouts. True to its unique context and subtleties, this home with a monochromatic palette, designed by Ar. Saumya Khanna & Ar. Sudhir Ambawata Co – founders & principle architects of SSDA Architects brings the essence of volumetric design and a touch of nature. This project, sprawling 13,000 sq. ft., commissioned for a renowned builder, features a planned six-bedroom house.

Designed in alignment with Vastu principles, the home exemplifies balanced spatial zoning, ensuring harmony between form and function. The design enhances natural light, ventilation, and flow across all levels. At its forefront, an iconic façade that captivates the eye, melding modern aesthetics with contextual sensitivity.
The intent was to truly amplify the experience of the lawn, making it feel expansive and larger than life. A well-defined spatial arrangement, with dedicated zones like a welcoming foyer and a mandir feature that adds a layer of cultural richness to the home.
The north-facing entry makes a bold statement with grand, elevated steps that lead the way into the home. Complemented by a serene water body at the entrance, the arrival experience is one of calm and quiet elegance, setting the tone for a tranquil living environment within.
Moving beyond the conventional facades, the team of SSDA opts for a volumetric facade design, creating a visual massing that captivates the eye. Additionally, designers include false volumes to make it look larger. It features a blend of stone and white paint finishes, creating a clean and refined aesthetic.
“We have also added tapered elements that are incorporated throughout the design, adding depth and visual interest. A restrained, monochromatic palette defines the overall tone, lending a sense of calm.
Additionally, a recurring design motif has been used of sleek rectangular slits, strategically placed to enhance texture, light play, and rhythm across surfaces, bringing a contemporary edge to the minimalist narrative,” explains Saumya.
The design also houses a mandir, cleverly tucked behind a feature wall. This pooja space remains discreet while still feeling integrated within the home. The feature wall conceals the spiritual activity beyond and acts as a visual anchor within the layout.
A courtyard sits at the heart of the residence, enhancing the sense of openness and scale. The design language of a monochromatic palette embraces a refined palette of monochrome tones, lending the space a timeless character while maintaining cohesion throughout the interiors.
Alongside the main building, the outhouse is also designed as an extension of elegance and restraint. The interiors are entirely clad in rich marble, creating a sense of refined continuity. A minimalistic ceiling enhances the clean language of the space.
Here, the bathroom is finished in warm travertine, lending an earthy, textural balance. A thoughtfully placed skylight brings in natural light, creating a serene, open ambiance. Accents of Ipe wood add warmth and contrast to the stone palette. It appears as if it’s floating above the ground, light, grounded, and effortlessly luxurious.
This residence serves as the epitome of modern architecture while blending natural sensibilities. With open spaces and volumetric designs, it lets the structure lead the way.
