A compact 850 Sq.ft home that involves bare essentials to create simple, stylish and clutter free space. A 2BHK apartment on 1st floor of a river facing property located in Gangapur road, Nashik. The team was offered a shell structure of columns, beams and slab, which enabled them to design every aspect of the project from scratch. Inspired by rare phenomenon of blooms in the desert, or as the name suggests, “Desert in Bloom” echoes a minimal aesthetic with a few stand out moments with pastel colours and natural light.
“Taking the notes of contemporary minimalism to upper strata, ‘Desert in Bloom’ embellishes humbling temperaments in neutrals and pops. It is an artistic dwelling with a grounded design sensibility.” – Nishal Sevak(Co-Editor)

The ample natural lights drive the spatial design of this project and the design successfully adheres to the client’s requirement. As you enter the house, living room reflects the color of desert (beige, whites, grey, sand). Colors start to pop up as you move ahead in the kitchen, dining and the more personal; bedroom areas.
Linear Directional Flooring flows throughout the common areas (Living, Kitchen, Dining). The patterns on the floor feels like strokes of brush on a grey canvas. It has a distinguished character of its own. The densely patterned circular carpet from D’Decor breaks the linearity of the floor with its shape and style. Contrasting pair of coffee tables are customized in mango wood that sits on the circular carpet. Bigger one is bleached and the smaller one is black matt PU polished.
A 4-seater sofa fabricated in powder coated mild steel in tones of grey is made to look floating with its sleek legs. Sofa color and living room walls are of the same color which makes the living feel spacious. The sofa back wall art is customized with thick sand color fabric and conceptualized to highlight the dune effect of desert. The shadows and textures that it creates adds layers to the walls. Tan colored lounging chair sits in the corner that breaks the monotonous aesthetics of living room with its stark presence.
The long TV wall is punched with an archway that opens up in Kitchen. The white Duco painted Archway and TV is carefully placed around grooves that are made on the wall. These grooves add depth to the long plain living room wall. Mirroring the archway is another archway shaped wall cladding placed on the same axis. Brass finished wall light highlights grooves inset within this archway.
Right next to main entrance, glass shelves float in the air in staggered pattern with minimal support on MS frame work. To make it look even lighter, the MS frame too is minimally supported on the wall. The glass has softened corners and cantilevers on both the sides.
Brown tinted glass and white Duco painted MS frames stand out beautifully on the grey wall. All the living room walls are painted grey with key elements highlighted in white (Sleek TV console, Shelving, both archways).
A plant sits in the corner next to the TV and a sleek standing lamp from Ikea in the opposite corner.
Dining wall art piece is hand painted by a fine artist – Salonee Thakre. The painting starts from the ceiling inside the cove where the top edge of wall art is blurred.
The colors used are pinks, lavender, and greens to reflect desert blooms. White powder coated and crisp looking dining table sits in front of this wall. White hanging light camouflages in the space.
The Kitchen shutter colors reflect the adjacent colors of wall art. White concealed handles used for shutters. The Kitchen backsplash is molded vitrified tile with a very distinctive pattern that resonate with the grooving design in living room.
It adds a subtle texture to the plain white backsplash area and elevates the space. Archway has a shelf attached to it that works as open shelving storage between Kitchen and dining.
Walnut wood finished tiles are used here to make the room feel warm. Bed is placed around the wardrobe so that the compact room feel spacious. A long platform shelf behind the bed acts as a side table which is a storage in itself. Switchboards are placed on this shelf making it easily accessible yet not visible on the cushioned bed back.
Ample storage space is provided behind, inside and around the bed. Wardrobes and curtains go up till the ceiling to make the room feel tall. Heavily textured and stone patterned laminate is used inside the wardrobe punch that sits behind the bed back. Plain Mustard bed back just adds the right amount of color in this brown, grey white room.
Black accents are used in wardrobe handles, Ceiling lights, Artifacts, study lights. Study desk with 3 drawers and a shelf is finished in same walnut finish as the floor and bed. Sculptural Teak wood chair matches the tones of the study and floor.
Oak wood finish vitrified floor tiles are used here which provides less maintenance and warm wooden feels. This space is wrapped with curtains on 2 sides from ceiling to floor. Tall curtains make the room look larger in terms on volume.
Floating bed with standout bed-back shape in cherry red color helps elevate the room. Sculptural Side table are customized in mango wood and it’s bleached that matches the bed textures.
Gold accents area used in the room in the form of table lamp, ceiling barrel lights and door handles. A sculptural umbrella tree is placed in the room corner that adds good amount of freshness.
