Set within the leafy neighbourhood of Vasant Vihar in New Delhi, this 6,000 sq ft residence is a bold exploration of dark tones, maximalist layering and immersive spatial drama. Envisioned by Qube Designs by Karan Sethi, Kailasa reflects a design philosophy that celebrates depth, material richness and a strong visual identity while remaining highly functional.

Dark Tones & Maximalism Layer This Residence Inviting Spatial Drama | Qube Designs

The four bedroom home unfolds across two levels and was completely reimagined through a full scale renovation. The planning strategy establishes a clear distinction between private and social zones. The upper floor serves as a cohesive family retreat housing the master suites, while the ground floor is conceived as a dedicated entertainment level. This zoning allows the home to transition seamlessly between intimate daily living and large scale gatherings.

Design Language

The design language leans unapologetically toward dark tones and maximalist compositions. Rather than relying on minimal restraint, the interiors embrace bold gestures, layered textures and strong material contrasts. A defining feature of the ground floor is the striking blue entertainment lounge envisioned as a cigar and hosting space.

The bar

Saturated in tone and detail, it captures the theatrical essence of the project and sets the mood for the rest of the home. Anchoring this space is asculptural revolving bar executed by Nivasa, which functions as both a practical element and a statement installation.

Materiality

Materiality forms the backbone of the design narrative. Blue stained vinyl surfaces introduce a moody, contemporary edge, while handcrafted wall coverings add tactile depth and artisanal character. The flooring is finished in Michelangelo stone imported from Portugal, lendingtimeless elegance and visual continuity across spaces. Custom carpentry runs throughout the residence, reinforcing the bespoke nature of the intervention.

Attention to detail was paramount at site, from ceiling treatments and joinery alignments to seamless service integrations. The architects carefully considered every surface and junction to ensure that the maximalist vision remained refined rather than overwhelming.

Art & Styling

Art and styling further enrich the spatial experience. Paintings by Mangesh Rajguru and wall art by Kapil Anant have been thoughtfully integrated into the interiors, reinforcing the expressive and layered aesthetic. Styling by Ladro enhances the overall composition, adding curated depth and personality to each room.

Executed over eight months in carefully planned phases while the family continued to occupy the house, the renovation demanded precision and coordination. The result is a residence that feels immersive, confident and cohesive. Kailasa stands as a strong articulation of Qube Designs by Karan Sethi’s philosophy, where darker palettes, statement elements and meticulous detailing converge to create a home that is both dramatic and deeply considered.
