Best Stone Countertops for Your Bathroom in 2020

Whether you’re designing a new bathroom from scratch or planning a complete bathroom renovation, your vanity and its countertops are sure to come up as a crucial aspect of your new design plan.

According to Stonewizards, it’s important to choose a countertop material that is going to be both practical and durable enough to withstand day to day use in your bathroom rather than choosing the most affordable option (wood or composite), .

So what exactly are the best countertops for bathrooms in 2020?

Year after year, stone countertops continue to be a fan favorite of homeowners all around the world.

That’s because upgrading to stone countertops can easily take any old and outdated kitchen or bathroom, and instantly transform the entire look and feel of the room into something more executive, more charming, and more inviting.

In the following article, we’ll be going over a few of the countertop options you’ll have when planning your next bathroom design project.

Granite

Granite is one of the most popular types of stone countertops available in today’s market. You’ll often find granite in shades of pink, white, as well as different variations of black and grey.

In some cases, a granite countertop might even have a similar appearance to marble, however, you won’t find nearly as much veining. Granite is also much more heat-resistant than marble or other types of stone.

On the other hand, one of the downfalls of installing granite countertops is that granite has a porous surface, which means that it will require periodic cleanings and re-sealings to prevent aging.

Marble

Most people consider marble as one of the most sophisticated and elegant materials for stone countertops.

This is because marble is known for having a significant amount of veining throughout the stone. In turn, this makes it so that each and every slab of marble will be completely unique to itself in both color and design.

With that said, it’s also important to note that marble is a much softer stone than granite or slate. Therefore, a marble countertop is prone to scratches, chips, and dents.

Quartz

Unlike granite and marble, quartz countertops aren’t actually made from natural stone. Instead, resins and fillers are used in order to produce a quartz countertop. Still, that doesn’t mean that quartz countertops aren’t as trendy or as stylish as other types of stone.

In fact, because of the fact that quartz countertops are engineered, slabs can be created in a wider palette of colors and designs. In other words, you’ll have a much wider design selection when shopping for quartz countertops than you would with any other material.

Unfortunately, because of the fact that it is man-made, quartz tends to be more expensive than some other stone materials. Therefore, if you’re looking to keep costs down, a natural stone countertop might be the better choice.

Slate

Slate is another extremely stylish stone countertop material that would make a wonderful addition to any bathroom. Just keep in mind that slate is somewhat limited when it comes to color and design choices.

Slate is a fine-grained green, gray, or blueish colored rock, which is great if you’re looking to decorate with darker, more earth-colored tones. But, if you’re looking for a brighter, more colorful countertop for your bathroom, you might be better off choosing granite, quartz or soapstone.

Just like granite and marble, slate is a completely natural stone material, which means that it has a porous surface and will require periodic cleanings and re-sealings to keep your counters looking their best.

But keep in mind that slate is actually more stain-resistant than some other types of stone countertop materials we’ve discussed here today.

Soapstone

According to most design pros, soapstone is often best described as a combination of marble and slate.

When looking for soapstone countertops, you’ll often find much of the same veining as you would in a marble slab. But at the same time, many compare the texture and feel of soapstone to that of slate.

It’s also good to know that due to its non-porous surface, soapstone is much easier to clean and maintain than other types of stone countertops.

Finally, while soapstone countertops tend to be more expensive than slate countertops, they are usually more affordable than marble or granite.

The Trendiest Countertops for Bathrooms 2020

At the end of the day, each and every single type of stone countertop that we’ve discussed today is capable of instantly transforming your bathroom from just another room in the house, to the most breathtaking and most welcoming room in your home.

Whether you choose granite, marble, quartz, slate or soapstone, a stone countertop is going to be the best choice for your next bathroom design project.
