Editor’s Note: Located in the dreamy and absolutely serene landscape of Alibaug, Shori Villa honors living with and around nature. With an equal amount of open and semi-open areas, the coastal charm of the exteriors thrives generously. The insides are in constant communication with the outdoors giving a feeling of that much-needed slice of peace during a getaway. ~ Nishal Sevak(Co-Editor)
Designed by DP+ Architects, Shovi Villa is sprawled over 0.75 acres of land with an asymmetrical plot shape. The brief was to design a 4-bedroom holiday villa in Alibaug with a living–dining space comprised of a games room, swimming pool, and recreational space for the end user. The Villa is conceptualized in an unconventional design where the structure is drawn-out all over the plot strategically separating a lot of landscaping all around the building.

The Villa’s outdoor and indoor spaces are related in such a way that each room is surrounded by its own spaces. All rooms are functionally different and interconnected with each other and thus maintaining the privacy of all rooms.
The Villa has been designed to blend with the lush green landscape with natural hues, materials, and textures. The villa entrance has an enormous landscape mound with ample parking space for the end users.
A screened clay jali wall separates the main villa from the common spaces thus adding privacy to the rooms and landscaped lawns. The porch entrance to the villa with a semi covered corridor connects well with all the spaces.
The pool and gazebo divide the structure, with the living room on one side and the bedrooms on the other. In between are the dining, tv room, and gazebo area that opens out onto the pool and lawn side for good breezy cross ventilation.
There is an indoor courtyard with a skylight that gives space ample natural light thus setting a soothing mood. The Villa has hand-painted walls at the backdrop of the swimming pool for unwinding and a perfect selfie point. The manicured gardens with ample outdoor spaces and water bodies blend throughout the entire villa.
Each bedroom has a sizeable area with a sit-out veranda near a lush green lawn overlooking the green surrounds. The high roof structure is defined by large overhangs and strategically placed cut-outs and a courtyard in the structure.
The façade is a combination of contemporary and traditional natural materials. Laterite stone for walls, Terracotta for flooring in bedrooms, and traditional clay tiles are used for the sloping roof. The interior is minimalistic with extravagant furnishings.
