The task was simple. To convert a compact 720 sq feet space in the heart of the city into a professional IT office for 9/15 staffers. And therein came the complexity as well. Technitude was ready to welcome its employees back into office post COVID at this second-floor space of a 50-year-old building near Shaniwarwada. The brief was to create an engaging and motivating workspace vibe with functional office interiors, as colleagues start settling into the hybrid work model while lending flexibility within the office.
“Studio Gasp has created a humbling and respectful office environment with close attention to meaningful details such as the flooring, individual cabins and furniture pieces.”- Nishal Sevak(Co-Editor)

To rationalise the use of the space, three specific zones were demarcated — workstations for common staff and walk-ins; service zone that included washroom, dry pantry, IT services and storage; executive zone with a flexible conversion of a cabin into a conference room.
To work around the constraint of space, colours, textures and patterns were used in a manner that created an illusion of vastness. The layout adapted to the existing windows of the space and functions were assigned accordingly. The ceiling was kept exposed to have adequate height which also makes the space look brighter. Inspired by the firm’s logo, a single hue of teal was infused to create a bold and eclectic look.
Clean geometric lines were used widely for a robust appeal along with some curve details to soften the tone. These patterns were smartly infused in various shapes and forms across the office for consistency. For instance, a geometric pattern was incorporated on the passage flooring that provides a neat demarcation of spaces and adds to the visual drama.
Gradients of monochromatic shades from white to grey all the way to black have been used across the office that add synchrony, symmetry and a generous dose of sophistication to the office. Darker hues and soft lighting have been used as you enter the office to create a professional ambiance while remaining welcoming.
Upon entrance, visitors are welcomed at a stone top console adorned with bright wall colour above which is also a signage wall. Orientations and connections of spaces were planned to take care of contextual views and connections. Lights were customized on-site to the zone demarcation that highlighted the wholesome details.
An open pantry gives colleagues the space for a quick break. A black mild steel division separates the restrooms from the rest of the office without disturbing the harmony of the space. Electromechanical installations and plumbing infrastructure were renovated in accordance with the new structure.
Moving past the entrance vestibule and common working space for 8 employees, are the cabin and conference rooms. To distinguish the space a sliding folding door was added that seamlessly blends into its designated space.
Deliberate use of wood and fluted glass for this partition lend both class and privacy. Only shut for meetings, the partition is left open to create space as well as provide natural light. To ensure optimum functionality, the conference and cabin can be used as one big space while serving individually as smaller spaces when required.
Staying in tune with the client’s brief, the architects have created a modern, bright, spacious and multifunctional workspace, free of creative and visual barriers, allowing both team and an individual working environment.
