  • An Abode With A Haveli Design Away From The City | Reflections Designs

‘NEHMAT’ is an Arabic word which means “From God’s Abundance”. The clients’ ancestors lived in a Haveli with the same name, and those fond memories of growing up in sprawling homes, close to nature. Thus, the family urged the clients to create an abode with a haveli design away from the city and give the children and grandchildren a glimpse of what their childhood was. This is where we begin our story, with the name and the feeling behind it.

    The site

Located in a rural nook of one of Uran’s villages, the haveli design bungalow was a bare-shell. In the front it had a barren open space and in the back the bedroom balcony overlooked a lake and a dense green landscape. The tall ceilings and double height in the living were the biggest highlight of the structure.

    The brief

With the site being located in a relatively industrial area, the challenge for us was to envision and design a relaxing home for a family of 4. The clients wanted a holiday home flooded with sunlight, where they could indulge in their hobbies and spend quality time with each other. influenced by the concept of a haveli, they wished for this home to be as open and airy as their childhood homes, without the headache of maintaining it.

Ground floor and all common passages – polished Kota flooring with Jaisalmer skirtings. The dark cherry burnt walnut used in the common areas was to accentuate the bleak beige of the walls which is always reflected by intense sunlight from the east west windows.

Ground floor has the living, dining, kitchen and the son’s bedroom. Master bedroom, daughter’s bedroom, library and the extended living space are on the first floor. A small home-office is on the second floor attached to the terrace.

    Kitchen

The kitchen has colorful dado tiles -The bold and bright elements in the kitchen are a conscious effort to change the colour tone of the space.

On the 2nd level you are welcome to the common courtyard which also is an extension of the Namaaz room. The space is a perfect nook for a reading corner with natural light seeping throughout the day.

Lovely 4 poster bed in the daughters bedroom with a modern flooring. Rustic tiles in her bathroom that gives almost a cave-like feel.

The use of the 4 poster bed leading to a coastal concept was a no brainer. From the floor to the design on the shutters was all binding towards a space that felt light and breezy.

The son’s room uses some beautiful rattan patterns contrasted with hues of grey that gives it a modern fusion but maintaining the essence of the old

Master bedroom floor tiles were a great find, they bring the room together really well.

The master borrows its inspiration from the French Mouldings that are a contrast and a refreshing change from the rest of the house

Each furniture piece was from a different era, hence team Reflections decided to approach each space with its own individual concept
