As the clients wanted change from their regular ambience, we chose to go for complete transformation with modern contemporary style of design. Having decided that, the rest of the things fell into place one by one.
Architectural planning is done with vastu shastra principles. The building is designed in four levels. The ground floor consists of a common entrance foyer, godown and servant’s quarter. The first floor is the office area and the top two floors have 3bhk residence.
Earthy materials like wood, exposed brick and metal are used for this project. A red-white-grey color palette is used for exterior facades with added touch of brown. The exposed brick cladding gives the building a modern yet rustic look.
Entrance foyer : When one enters the premises, they are met with lots of green plantations on the otta and a cosy welcoming entrance foyer. The concept of leaves became the leitmotiv in this project. It is reflected in different forms throughout the project. The main door is made in wood with long metal handles having engraving on it. The metal jali is also made of leaves pattern. The entrance is in tones of beige, red, grey and black with little brown. The exposed brick clad feature wall was designed as a rustic backdrop for lord Buddha’s idol. The hanging lamps were chosen to add a touch of ethnicity to the foyer. The flooring has oval black granite blocks with the leaves pattern sandblasted on them. The bench is designed in simple form using wood and metal along with bright toned upholstery. The beige walls and rustic feature wall give the foyer a serene ambience.
The staircase and lift connects all the floors. The walls are done in beige texture with black tiles for steps along with glass railing and wooden handrail which gives the staircase a modern look. All the landings have wooden clad beams with different art products on each along with vertical wooden strips cladding.
First floor – Office : The staircase leads to the first floor entrance lobby of the office area. The office is segregated into three prime zones – the main office cabin, display area and workspace for staff. The cabin is separated from display area with a glass partition which helps in keeping the visual connectivity.
Cabin : The interior of the office is done in rustic tones using earthy materials like exposed brick, wood and RCC. The furniture is made in wood. The exposed brick cladding done on the wall behind the customised executive desk is given for adding color to the cabin. Raw MS plate in the front of the desk is designed using all the brand names the client is dealing with. A sofa is given for visitors opposite to the desk. Wall adjacent to the desk is designed as a showcase for all the achievements likes trophies and certificates. The flooring and walls are kept in a neutral shade of grey to highlight the furniture.
Display Area : The client had the requirement of a display area for kitchen appliances like chimneys, hobs, microwave and oven etc. The display area has major display of chimneys and hobs. The space is divided in two platforms made of wood to highlight all the appliances. The central platform can accommodate 6 sets of chimney and hob with 4 wall mounted chimneys and 2 island chimneys. The side platform can accommodate 2 sets of wall mounted chimneys and hobs. The drawers below the platforms provide ample amount of storage space. A standing unit in the corner is given for display of built-in oven and microwave. The whole office area is designed as a single space and given minimalist look by keeping the decor simple and minimum.
RESIDENCE : The upper two storeys are the residence. The entrance lobby has a louvred shoe rack-cum bench and set of framed brass Buddha in bright blue colour fabric. The main door is again made of wood with an oval metal plate inlayed in it which has laser engraving work done on it, reflecting the overall concept of common areas.
The second floor consists of living room, with an attached balcony facing the road, kitchen and dining area, common bathroom, wash area and master bedroom with attached bathroom. The interior is done in tones of brown and beige as the basic palette with splashes of various vibrant colours. The flooring, walls and ceiling are kept plain off-white to create the backdrop to accentuate the furniture.
Living room :
The living room has a linear orientation. The lounger sofa along with a two sweater sofa provide adequate seating. The upholstery of the lounger sofa is kept brown with beige textured as well as floral printed cushions. The wall behind sofa is adorned with exquisite replica paintings from M.F. Hussain’s portfolio which adds liveliness to the living room. The decor is selected in red, green and yellow colours to compliment the colours in the paintings. The wooden louvred handing lamp and designer octet fan with wooden blades establish balance. The T.V unit design is kept simple with light grey wallpaper at the back. The center table is made up of oval metal top to keep maximum circulation space near the sofa and also reflecting the oval concept of the door metal plate.
Kitchen and Dining area : This whole area is designed in contemporary way keeping it simple with minimal embellishments. The black imported granite platform, plain gray laminate shutters and grey textured tiles as backsplash gives the kitchen an elegant look. The dining table has the same top as the kitchen platform with wooden legs maintaining uniformity. The veneer panelling highlights the dining table. The green chairs compliment the colourful palette knife painting thus adding element of freshness. The black metal hanging lamp provides with the option of having meals in dim lighting. The dining area also has a crockery unit with glass sliding shutters. The brown roller blinds are chosen for the kitchen windows to compliment the wood furniture.
Master bedroom : This bedroom is given different feel than the rest of the house. The overall concept of the room is kept ethnic. Materials like wood, ventura and metal are used to give the room brown and grey tones. The bed is made of wooden strips with random metal strips in between having ethnic patterns engraved on them. The same concept is reflected on the sliding shutters of the wardrobe. The wall decor is kept minimum with framed wooden blocks with intricate patterns engraved on it. The adjacent wall has a diamond shaped metal wall clock. The walls are kept plain accentuating the furniture giving it a warm ambience. The attached bathroom is designed in monochromatic tones. The black and grey matt tiles are fixed in linear and square patterns to give the bathroom a modern and minimalistic look. The shower area has a niche highlighted with indirect lighting. The huge wall length mirror is given to make the bathroom look spacious.
Top floor : The top floor has 2 more bedrooms and a huge lower terrace. One of the bedrooms is for guests while the other is for client’s son.
Guest bedroom : We chose pine wood as the main material for this bedroom to make it different than the brown tone of the rest of the house. The light green textured wallpaper was chosen to accentuate the pine wood furniture. The scenic watercolour paintings in pastel shades of green, blue and peach were chosen to give the room a soothing and warm ambience. The attached bathroom is designed in the same tone of the bedroom with beige and blue tiles.
Son’s bedroom : The layout of this room is linear so we segregated it in two parts giving a huge bed and tv unit along with a seating area which can be used as a reading corner as well. Lines are used as design element along with a monochromatic color palette adding splashes of vibrant colours in the form of decor. The angular play of lines on the wall in the form of grey cladding creates a perfect background for accentuating the furniture as well as the decor. The furniture is made in black following the monochromatic theme of the room. The similar concept of lines is followed in the design of tv unit as well as ceiling . The bright and colorful acrylic paintings depicting the scenes of morning and evening adds color to the room. The yellow ceramic vase in the corner compliments the paintings. The two seater sofa in the corner, a side table adjacent to it and the study lamp makes it a cosy spot for reading or working. The bright lemon yellow color of the sofa adds more color to the room. The industrial metal wall clock adds to the tough look of the room. The tv unit wall is treated with a rough texture again in grey tone which creates a perfect backdrop for highlighting the various art products kept on the shelves. The light grey and white vinyl flooring gels very well with the overall monochromatic concept of the room. All the elements in the room come together to give the room a masculine feel. The attached bathroom is done in classic combination of black, grey and red in the form of mosaic tiles along with black and grey matt tiles giving the bathroom a rich look.
