  • 7 Living Room Decor Tricks for a Standout Space

Whether you’re designing your home, planning a renovation, or would like to jazz up your living space, a little planning can go a long way. Although there are many unique ideas and tricks to breathe life into your home, there are also tried and true concepts that never fail. This list is a combination, highlighting the latest trends and go-to designs, all of which are intended to spruce up the heart of any home — your living room.

Since the living room is used in so many ways, this space must be both stylish and functional. Keep that in mind throughout your “living room makeover” journey. Let’s get started!

    1. Say “YES” to Rustic

Regardless of whether you live in the city or countryside, rustic elements give any home a warm, inviting vibe. The key is adding a few rustic touches here and there, transforming your living room into a chic, yet cozy space. Nothing screams rustic quite like wooden beams. The best part is, they don’t need to be structural. If you’re revamping, look into faux wood beams. The contrast between wood beams and a white ceiling is beautiful. Other accents include a repurposed wood coffee table, wooden farmhouse trays, wool blankets, and a stylish wood stand for those who have a fireplace.

    2. Welcome Plants

Nothing says “welcome home” quite like plants. After all, research shows that houseplants can reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, boost your mood, and improve cognitive function. Plus, they look great! If you don’t have time to care for several plants, invest in one oversized plant to fill an unused corner. As soon as you enter the room, your eye will be drawn to it, especially if you select the right pot. If you’re going for the whole rustic look, then a wood or clay pot will look great. You can also source stunning woven baskets that are either neutral or colorful — your choice!

    3. Paint Old Brick

If you have a fireplace made of old brick, a little paint goes a long way. This is a simple, cost-effective project that will leave a lasting impression. Depending on your color scheme, select a color that you’re happy with. If there is little color in your living room and want a retro look, paint it mint or sea blue. It will pop! If you want to go for a clean look, choose cream-colored paint and add pops of color to your living room with quality throws or a couple of pillows.

    4. Don’t Forget Metallic Accents

Metal accents go beautifully with many color schemes, as well as with rustic elements. If you have a wood coffee table, consider a slate or copper-plated end table. This would be the perfect place to put a small plant or cacti. Source a few metallic elements that stand out. The key is to not overdo and let feature accents shine. Some ideas are magazine racks, candle holders, vases, picture frames, etc.

    5. Consider a Dual-Purpose End Table

Whether you are limited for space or would like to achieve a more minimalistic look, a dual-purpose end table can be a gamer changer. For example, why not build or purchase a bar cart? Have a few of your favorite bottles on the first shelf, along with glasses, and a cocktail shaker (which could be metallic). On the top shelf, use it as a functional end table or display some of your favorite books, records, or knickknacks.

    6. Invest in a Statement Rug

On a tight budget? Purchasing an eye-catching rug can help you give your living a whole fresh look, without breaking the bank. If you have a neutral living room, choose a patterned rug. Then select a few pieces of decor that match that pattern. For example, if you go with a boho rug with plenty of red, purchase a couple of red items that add that extra punch, such as pillows, candles, or little trinkets that remind you of your travels.

    7. Light and Airy Walls

White walls make a room look much larger than it is. This is being seen time and time again throughout the tiny house movement. This works best when you have a lot of natural light coming in, as white reflects the sun’s rays, brightening up any room. Best of all, when your interior walls and ceiling are white, every accent in your living room becomes the instant focal point. To really pull this look off, think simplicity — less is more. The key is choosing a tone that isn’t pure white. For example, if you have a navy blue sofa, then pick up a paint swatch that matches. Select the lightest possible tone on that swatch, and you’ll be all set!
