Refurbishing To The Breezy And Earthy Interiors | SPDA

The recently refurbished modern bungalow by Shalini Pereira Design Studio, Gurgaon is sure to make you feel homey and settled with its use of earthy material and color palette. This contemporary house makes a home to three generations with the parents accommodating the ground floor and the two sons occupying the other two floors. This floor had to be designed to act as the cynosure for those cherishable family hours!

The designer here faced a particular challenge of making the spaces more airy, breathable and livelier- just as the client wanted it. A transition space between the entrance and the core spaces seemed to be a mandate in here. The refurbishing also involved transforming an old-fashioned, dimly lit interiors to give it a well-lit modern and a mid-century modern touch.

The bungalow unfolds itself with a fluted wooden main door to let you into a contemporary setup with the reflective Italian marble floor and the interiors set to look earthy and minimal. It is a spacious setup that eminently uses a single material- veneer, contrastingly giving it an airy and a settled look.

The core area gets shared by the vestibule, the formal seating, and the dining space. Though sharing the same marble floor, these spaces are very insightfully segregated to also keep them visually tethered. The veneer ceiling detailed in intricate grooves performs to part the dining and the vestibule from the formal seating area.

One wouldn’t miss the arrangement of the vertical battens creating a copy warmly lit niche containing two comfy ottomans and a center table. The seating area uses an effortlessly homey tan-colored sofa with the warm white overhanging light fixture to playfully interact with the other functional areas in the house. Furthermore, the furnishings- the dining table, the pastel chairs, and the tea-poi structures themselves on those slender sleek legs to minimalize the look.

The secondary spaces remain connected to the core area through the see-through glass doors. These doors perform dual functions- to visually connect the spaces and also bring in more light inwards. To further suffice the purpose, the lintels have been raised to juxtapose a glass panel.

The formal Drawing room is made pleasant with the use of light pastel shades for the modern and minimal furniture units. It is tasked to also serve as an extension to the formal living with the 180 degrees swingable glass doors. It is a well-lit space with minimum furnishing to showcase the longer wall with teak wood paneling that extends itself to become a part of the plain white ceiling. An innate marble shapes itself to become the center table positioned on slender metal legs, perfectly justifying the concept of the interiors. Thus, this family space successfully portrays itself to vividly reflect everyone’s taste in the family.

The kitchen again, with a tall see-through glass door is aptly designed in a sober simplistic manner using a single veneer for the storage units. The kitchen thus gets its transformation from a dimly lit area to a contemplative functional space.

The bedroom is eloquently simplistic with the bed being the main element. It is reflective and airy with plain walls and minimal ceiling to shift the focus onto the floor panels arranged in a herringbone pattern. A very interesting concept is used for the bed back. It is a setup of antique traditional tiles framed in wood to depict the patriarchy of the users. The TV console is yet again a decent, minimal unit that speaks of its irreplaceable characteristics.

The toilets give a very raw feel with the amalgamation of traditional tiling and exposed plaster thus catering to the remoteness of the space.

Every nook and corner post refurbishment, indeed speaks of its tranquillity, functioning, comfort and most of all- speaks plenty for the residents!
