Roots & Wings is an 8,000 sq. ft. residence in Delhi designed for a three-generation family. The project transforms the existing home without completely reconstructing it. The team planned and executed the work in carefully phased stages while the family continued living on-site. The design preserves the emotional essence of the original home. It also introduces a contemporary architectural and material language. Together, these elements create a timeless residence that honours the past while embracing the future.
At the heart of the project is the family matriarch, who built the original home alongside her late husband. Her deep emotional connection to the house became the foundation of the design approach.Her son and granddaughter’s changing lifestyle needs called for a thoughtful reimagining of the home. The design adapts to contemporary living while preserving its memories, identity, and sense of belonging. The result is a residence that adapts across generations without losing the spirit of what made it home.
Roots & Wings Gives An Old Delhi Home A New Way To Grow | Agnom Designs
The entrance passage acts as a physical and symbolic bridge between the original home and the newly rebuilt spaces. Featuring the King and Queen brass sculpture, it creates an immersive first impression while representing the journey from the home’s legacy to its renewed identity.
This master bedroom is a cozy sanctuary that perfectly balances calming neutrals with warm, vibrant energy. A plush beige bed framed by softly lit, curved wall niches anchors the room, while a sun-drenched nook with gorgeous rust-orange velvet seating offers an inviting spot to take in the tree-lined views. Finished with whimsical touches like a playful scalloped ceiling and a delicate bird mural, the space feels effortlessly stylish, deeply personal, and connected to nature.
Stepping into this master washroom feels like entering a private, luxurious spa. Wrapped in gorgeous, natural marble, the room centers around a beautiful double vanity with soft, curved stone bases and crisp round sinks. Tall, brass-framed mirrors hang gracefully from the ceiling, adding a touch of elegance that perfectly matches the warm golden hardware. That same soothing vibe flows right into the bright, glass-enclosed shower, where a built-in marble bench and a sweet arched niche make your daily routine feel like a true escape.
Located at the heart of the home, the swing is the family’s favourite gathering spot. Shared with the piano on the first floor, it is a space where the father and daughter spend their evenings together, making it both an emotional focal point and a defining architectural feature.
The home’s ceilings are treated as defining architectural elements, featuring sculpted profiles and patterns that add depth and character to every space. In the daughter’s bedroom, a color-blocked ceiling complements a cantilevered bay window that extends towards the garden, creating a light-filled nook while strengthening the connection between the interior and nature.
The space beautifully pairs soft, dusty pink scalloped wall tiles with a gorgeous floating vanity in a ribbed sage green. The real showstopper, though, is the bold, oversized terrazzo pattern that sweeps across the floor and into the glass-enclosed shower, wrapping around a convenient built-in bench. Framed by a chic brass pill-shaped mirror and matching terrazzo pendant lights, this room proves that everyday routines can be both wonderfully whimsical and effortlessly stylish.
The top floor has been designed as a contemporary glass house dedicated to entertaining and family gatherings. With dramatic glazing, darker finishes, and abundant natural light, the space transforms effortlessly from a bright daytime lounge into an intimate evening entertainment venue.
As the sophisticated heart of this multi-generational home, the formal lounge balances moody elegance with personal history. Bespoke illuminated niches in the bronze-toned walls beautifully showcase the family’s cherished artifacts. Beneath a circular recessed ceiling, deep emerald-green velvet sofas and organic marble coffee tables offer vibrant contrast against the dark wood paneling, seamlessly uniting the clients’ past and present.
