  • In a Crimson Office, This Gurgaon Office Turns Colour Into Architecture | Subset Studios

The first thing you encounter is red.

A deep crimson structural column marks the entrance to Carrum Mobility Solutions’ 2,800 square foot Gurgaon Office, and from that moment, colour becomes the organising tool of the space. It runs overhead through exposed cable trays finished in the same red, descends into door frames and pendant housings, grounds itself in cubic planter boxes on the concrete floor. The crimson is not applied to the architecture. In every practical sense, it is the architecture.

    Entrance

Beyond the entrance, the plan opens into a central lounge. A curved white ceiling soffit descends to define it, a semi-circular canopy within the open floor, anchored by a large ring pendant in crimson steel. Below sit grey upholstered sofas and black metal coffee tables on a graphic charcoal-and-yellow ikat rug. This is the room from which all others become legible.

The partitions separating the lounge from the surrounding zones are not solid. Circular apertures, porthole-like openings cut at two heights through the white drywall, create a continuous visual conversation between spaces. Through them, the conference room reveals itself: a chair pushed back from a table, a pendant reflected in glass, a palm frond catching the light. Drawn from Carrum’s circular logo, the openings earn their presence spatially rather than symbolically. They borrow light between zones, let the floor breathe, and make enclosure feel like a choice rather than a default.

These apertures give the project its name. Office Inbetween describes the condition they create: a space in the threshold between focus and conversation, between the private room and the shared floor, between seeing and being seen.

    Boardroom

The boardroom occupies the glazed perimeter, its table running nearly the full width of the room. Crimson linear pendants hang above at staggered heights and slight angles, never parallel, giving the ceiling an energy a conventional grid would not. On the far wall, a single globe lamp sits inside a crimson rectangular frame: the lamp becomes an object, the frame a picture border, the wall a composition. It is among the more quietly inventive details in the project.

    Workstation

The workstation zone runs along the window wall, where a dense row of areca palms lines the deep sill, backlit by diffused daylight, their fronds casting soft shadow across the white work surface. The effect is environmental rather than decorative, a green threshold softening the boundary between desk and city.

Globe sconces recur throughout, paired on partitions, stacked on grey walls, framed singly in crimson. Their spherical form echoes the apertures; their warm light contrasts the cooler ceiling pendants. The motif earns its repetition by doing different work each time: wayfinding, atmosphere, composition.

    Breakout Zone

A breakout zone at the perimeter steps back entirely from the red. Black tables, walnut-seated spindle chairs, brass stem lamps, a framed artwork. The restraint reads as intentional punctuation after the energy of the main floor.

Throughout, the services are left exposed and painted into the composition rather than concealed. Nothing is hidden. The space presents itself as it is.

Office Inbetween takes a single formal idea, the circle, and builds a consistent spatial language from it across open plan, conference, lounge, and breakout. Every zone is distinct; every zone is connected. The red holds it together. The circles keep it open.
