On a compact 33’ × 50’ urban plot, this architect’s sustainable office rises above a commercial base as both workspace and quiet manifesto. Occupying the second and third floors, the office is conceived not merely as a place of work, but as a built expression of the practice’s values — climate responsive, material honesty, and spatial calm.

“With this sustainable office, we wanted the building to demonstrate what we believe in — that sustainability begins with orientation, restraint, and letting materials speak for themselves,” shares the principal architect.
Responding to its south-west exposure, the sustainable office adopts a protective stance. The designers intentionally restrain the façade on this side, articulating it through exposed brickwork with minimal openings. Beyond its earthy presence, the brick acts as high thermal mass, reducing heat gain and stabilizing indoor temperatures.
In contrast, the north-east façade opens generously with larger glass panels and operable louvers, allowing diffused daylight and cross ventilation to animate the workspace. The building, in effect, breathes — shielding where necessary and opening where possible.
The arrival experience sets the tone. A shallow water body with stepping stones forms a threshold between the bustling city and the quiet, calm interiors. This transition leads into a double-height waiting area that anchors the studio spatially and visually.
A fountain murmurs softly along one edge, enhancing microclimatic cooling while reinforcing a sense of calm. Built-in seating emerges from the architecture itself, reducing the need for additional furniture and maintaining visual continuity.
Spatial planning emphasizes openness and connection. Gentle level variations across the second floor improve airflow and visual interaction. Workstations line one side of the central volume, while the principal architect’s cabin is elevated by a few steps on the opposite end — creating hierarchy without enclosure.
Above, the third-floor conference room sits beneath a sloping roof lined with teakwood. The ceiling not only introduces warmth and texture but also acts as thermal insulation, mitigating heat transfer from the roof slab.
Materiality remains raw and grounded. Locally sourced bricks, kota stone, Jaisalmer stone, teakwood, and exposed concrete ceilings define the palette.
Earthy textures are achieved directly in civil work, reducing applied finishes and long-term maintenance. Several light fixtures are custom-fabricated on site, integrated seamlessly into the concrete slab.
A parametric feature wall in the waiting area, crafted using terracotta moulds for MS pipe extrusion, introduces a tactile sculptural layer while remaining rooted in material authenticity.
In its restraint and responsiveness, the studio becomes more than an office — it becomes a lived demonstration of practice, where sustainability is not decorative, but deeply embedded in form, orientation, and experience.
