Set within a modest 1,050 sq. ft apartment in Bangalore, this home warmly named Sukha — is an ode to subtlety, simplicity, intention and soul. Designed by Monika Jain and Chukki Jangid principal designers of House of NiHU, the space reflects the family’s quiet preferences and their longing for a home that feels gentle from the moment you step in. Rooted in earthy tones, soft finishes and a mindful approach, the interiors strike a harmony between Wabi-Sabi sensitivity and contemporary simplicity.
HOUSE OF NiHU
The family wanted a home they could settle into instantly nothing loud, nothing dramatic, nothing that would age too quickly. Just soft accents that live beautifully within neutrals. Their brief was simple: calm, clarity and comfort. A conscious avoidance of anything excessive. This philosophy shaped a home where curves soften every transition and where natural warmth flows effortlessly from one surface to another. Sukha is meant to slow you down, invite ease, and hold space for reflection — a home that feels right on every level.
The material palette of the home was crafted to feel warm from the moment you step in. A textured wall grounds the open living–dining space, letting the wooden accents and handcrafted details take quiet centre stage. One of the family’s favourite elements — a custom pendant lamp in off-white poplin with bold black edging — adds a beautiful contrast, elegant yet understated.
Cane textures flow softly through the home, appearing in the kitchen shutters, centre table and crockery unit, lending a gentle, natural rhythm. This is a home that invites slow mornings, warm light and unhurried cups of coffee.
The warmth continues into the private spaces. In the master bedroom, a terracotta fabric wall introduces depth and a tactile richness, brought together by a sculptural pendant light and subtle black details. The foyer carries forward a cultural touch with wallpaper inspired by Indian craft.
The kids’ room is anchored by a step-up platform that seamlessly houses the bed and wardrobe. Curves soften every element. It softens the headboard, wardrobe edges and the pegboard with wooden legs. A custom wallpaper brings fun, imagination and character to the space.
