There are projects that begin with a list – requirements, styles, constraints. And then there are those rare moments when a space begins with silence. This home was one such moment. With no formal brief from the client, our design journey began not with guidelines but with confidence and freedom to create. What took shape from this quietude is a home defined by a warm, minimal aesthetic – distinctive in character yet deeply functional.
Spaxis Design
This quiet abode, spanning 2000 square feet, exudes a sense of calm and minimal aesthetic, the moment one enters. It ushers you into a foyer that stretches into the distance, drawing the eye to a softly illuminated, adorned wall at the far end, while the dining and living spaces unfold gently on either side. The subtle stretch of beige Italian marble across the floor brings a sense of continuity and understated elegance to the space.
This seamless expanse acts as a grounding canvas. Its polished surface reflects soft daylight throughout the interiors. Light gently filters in through the balcony adjoining the living room, enhancing the feeling of openness and calm. The marble extends beautifully along the living room wall, further emphasizing this sense of continuity.
The interior unfolds through a language of clean vertical lines and minimal aesthetic. One can see this in the wooden louvers of the foyer partition wall. It is also seen on the grooves on the panels, and the two marble bands that rise along the living room wall.
Together, they form a simple rhythm that ties the whole space together, creating order and harmony in every corner. The soft grey checkered wall paneling adds distinctive character to the space, contrasting with the beige marble on the adjacent wall.
Adding a hint of playfulness to the space, the semi-open partition that subtly separates the foyer from the kitchen features a solid base with vertical black rods above, punctuated by staggered wooden platforms.
The colour and material palette is deliberately understated. Wooden furniture pieces stand in gentle contrast to the quiet luxury of beige Italian marble, adding warmth to the space. Soft hues – white, light grey, and the muted dove blue of the kitchen cabinets create a calm and soothing atmosphere. Thoughtfully placed artefact like the customized ceramic wall sculptures lend a sense of individuality to the space.
This restrained elegance extends into the bedrooms, positioned on the other side along the corridor. The master bedroom is anchored by wooden furniture pieces that are sleek and well crafted, bringing warmth and a sense of refinement to the space.
Wooden flooring and soft furnishings in bright shades of blue and yellow complement the space. Vertical rhythm continues the language here as well, complemented by a compact study nook crafted in wood place neatly in one corner, blending with the room’s material palette while offering a quiet spot for work and reflection.
In the son’s bedroom, a nature-inspired wallpaper adds a playful touch. It’s paired with wooden paneling that continues the material language seen throughout the home, adding warmth and visual continuity to the room. The study table in this room is a nod to the kitchen partition, made of wood with slim black vertical rods, tying it back to the rest of the home while giving the room its own character.
Ultimately, this home stands as a testament to the power of simplicity and thoughtful design born from freedom rather than constraint. Rooted in the quietude that inspired its creation, it embraces minimalism with character – offering an inviting atmosphere that feels both elegant and comfortably lived-in.
