In the heart of Bhuj, adjacent to the iconic Smritivan Earthquake Museum, an office in a posh corporate tower seeks metamorphosis in the hands of Architects Bhavi Katira and Krishma Shah of The Home Studio. They transformed a compact office footprint of just 670 sq. ft. into a polished corporate sanctuary. One that radiates opulence, purpose, and material poetry.

Designed for YP Minechem Pvt. Ltd., a mining company spearheaded by Mr. Yash Katira, the space pays homage to the company’s elemental roots. It crafts a narrative around natural stone, mineral richness, and timeless craftsmanship.

What began as a design brief filled with spatial limitations evolved into an opportunity for the design team. They wanted to reinterpret constraints as creative leverage. They delivered a boutique workplace, articulating every square foot with intention, detail, and opulence.

The Arrival as a Statement

Anchored by a striking elevation clad in Valencia Gold stone from Stonyc, Ahmedabad, the entrance sets an immediate tone of refined luxury. Warm vertical timber panelling and fluted glass offer a quiet prelude to the design language within. Here, understated opulence meets contemporary clarity. This threshold is not merely transitional but declarative, echoing the panache and sophistication that lies beyond.

Upon entry, visitors encounter a reception area that sets the tone for the entire office—graceful, luxurious, and commanding. A bespoke desk, sculpted from Opera Fantastico marble, anchors the space alongside a rear wall clad in the same stone.

The transition from entry to reception unfolds across a meticulously crafted marble flooring pattern in Swarovski white, ST Lorrent black, and Burberry beige. It is a deliberate composition that creates a subtle yet effective directional axis, intuitively guiding visitors toward the reception desk.

The desk itself becomes the focal sculpture of the space. Brushed gold MS plates and elegant golden metal inlays adorn the Opera Fantastico marble cladding. Overall, it is a fusion of material sophistication and contemporary allure. It offers a bold first impression that feels both elevated and inviting.

Above, a quirky chandelier draws the eye upward, balancing the classical undertones with a touch of playful opulence. To the side, a crafted world map in warm-toned wood and a concealed electrical niche turned display pocket lend character without clutter.

The Peaceful Alcove

Nestled quietly to the right of the entrance is a serene temple. It is envisioned not as an afterthought but as an integral spiritual pause. The alcove houses a silver idol of Lord Ganesha, placed against a Crystal Onyx backdrop.

When backlit, the onyx glows with an ethereal quality. It casts a meditative luminance throughout the space and infuses it with calm, clarity, and reverence.

The Considered Workspace

The central workspace — though devoid of natural light and ventilation — surprises with its bright, breathable materiality. Designed to house 5–6 team members along with essential equipment, the space deftly avoids claustrophobia. Through thoughtful planning, it doesn’t compromise on comfort or functionality.

Here, the material palette is subdued yet layered. White fluted laminates with teakwood borders, neutral grey cabinetry, and aqua blue back-painted glass form a symphony of textures. Brush-gold metal inlays glide through the space, adding a hint of opulence to utilitarian surfaces.

Wooden flooring ensures easy maintenance and repairs in long term while exuding warmth right away. The glass partitions link the workspace with the reception, balancing transparency and acoustic privacy through fluted glass treatments.

The result is an environment that feels young, tactile, and highly efficient — a true example of frugality meeting finesse.

Where Luxury Meets Leadership

As one moves into the private cabin of the Managing Director, the design language crescendos into a display of executive elegance. The statement backdrop is a visual marvel — backlit Coppa Cabana marble flanked by veneered niches and storage, framed in charcoal wood-finished panels that bring depth and gravity.

The director’s desk becomes a sculptural element in itself — topped with backlit marble, supported by a CNC-cut MS plate in brushed gold finish. It is a table that does not merely support work — it anchors the opulence.

A plush informal lounge within the cabin, complete with a comfortable sofa and integrated TV unit, invites unhurried conversation.

The flooring here mirrors the graphic marble inlay at the entrance, bringing visual cohesion. Behind the lounge, the rear TV wall echoes the drama of the rest of the room — layered with backlit marble and warm charcoal panels.

However, the artistic pièce de résistance is the original canvas by artist Bipin Soni from Bhuj, commissioned exclusively for this space.

In powerful strokes and earthy textures, the painting portrays the alchemy of chemical extraction — transforming buried mineral richness into refined material glory. It is both a tribute to the company’s mining legacy and a profound metaphor for the hidden depth of design itself.

A Place to Pause

Extending the spatial experience beyond the confines of the cabin, the Director’s office opens into a serene balcony that frames a panoramic view of the Smritivan Museum hillscape — a rare visual delight in an urban workspace.

Accessible from both the cabin and the common lobby, this multifunctional terrace is dressed in understated furniture, curated artwork, and an aura of quietude. Designed as a quiet reprieve, it offers a calming counterpoint to the dynamic rhythm of the workday within.

Seamlessly Integrated Utilities

Clever space planning allows the utility zone — comprising the pantry and washrooms — to be accessed both from the main workspace and discreetly via a camouflaged door behind the director’s cabin. The door, integrated seamlessly into the wall panelling, exemplifies the design’s meticulous attention to detail.

The office interior of YP Minechem Pvt. Ltd. stands as a testament to the evocative power of natural materials and the transformative capability of design. By weaving together six distinct types of marble, textural contrasts, and light-centric detailing, The Home Studio has achieved what few can in such compact footprints: a space that does not just accommodate business — it embodies its very soul.
