  • This Office Design Redefines Corporate Interiors With Contemporary Style | Studio Kin

In an age of glass-heavy minimalism and open-plan informality, the SSA Office project stands apart by redefining corporate interiors by choosing memory over mimicry. Tasked with designing a workspace for a High Court Advocate, the brief called for an environment that channels the quiet dignity of a 1990s Indian corporate office, layered with a contemporary lens. The outcome is a space that is as timeless as it is tactile, honoring past design values while meeting modern expectations of comfort, function, and subtle sophistication.

The office is hence structured around a material and sensory experience that blends tradition with innovation. Every element, flooring, upholstery, panelling, even window treatments, has been carefully selected to build a narrative rooted in the past but confidently aware of the present.

    Spatial Planning

The spatial layout was crafted to balance clarity and privacy while maximizing natural light and ventilation. Public-facing zones, such as the waiting area and shared corridors, gradually flow into more semi-private and private spaces like meeting rooms and personal cabins. All the private and semi-private spaces are positioned along the periphery, allowing them to open up to full-height windows and benefit from abundant natural light and ventilation.

    Public Zones

The public zones, therefore, form the central spine of the layout, seamlessly linking and anchoring the various parts of the office together. This progression supports the workflow of a legal practice, where confidentiality, acoustic control, and focused environments are essential. The result is an environment that feels breathable, bright, and comfortably temperate, contributing to occupant well-being and reducing dependency on artificial climate control systems.

    Circulation Area

The office features brown Kota stone flooring, used in two distinct finishes and sizes that help articulate the spatial zoning. Circulation areas and shared spaces use a rough river-finish, grounding the user with texture and grit underfoot.

    Material Tactility

As one moves into more intimate zones, the stone shifts to a smaller size with mirror-finish, providing a smooth, cooling surface that invites comfort and quiet. This thoughtful use of material tactility not only serves as a visual cue but also allows the occupants to intuitively perceive spatial transitions without visual markers, an understated but powerful engagement of the sensory navigation through the office.

    Glass Partition Details

One of the key gestures in zoning the workspace was the use of different textures of glass within the wall partitions. Fluted glass is introduced within the wall partition that separates the common areas from other spaces whereas a clear glass is installed in the rest.

    corporate interiors

This intervention not only establishes a subtle visual barrier, offering a sense of privacy without fully cutting off the space, but also introduces a layered, textural quality that enriches the material palette. Its ribbed surface diffuses light gently, maintaining openness while softening visibility, striking a fine balance between transparency and discretion. Therefore adding a modern yet practical dimension to the design, further elevating the spatial experience through thoughtful contrasts in materiality.

    Bamboo Blinds

Another critical intervention comes in the form of bamboo chick blinds, an unmistakable visual from Indian office culture in the 80s and 90s. Far from a decorative gesture, these blinds serve both aesthetic and functional roles. Their ability to filter daylight into a soft, dappled glow not only enhances the materiality of the interiors but also contributes to cooling, reducing the thermal load without sacrificing openness. Their texture introduces a handcrafted softness into the otherwise linear space, complementing the coolness of stone and the precision of brass detailing.

    corporate interiors

    Wooden Textures

The overall material palette is rooted in warmth, depth, and contrast. Rich wooden veneers and solid joinery form the base layer of the design, referencing traditional Indian cabinetry and office design. Accentuating these wooden tones are brass details, used in door handles, trims, and junction elements, which introduce a subtle layer of opulence and craftsmanship without becoming ostentatious.

    corporate interiors

    Upholstery

Upholstery choices further reinforce the revivalist narrative. Drawing inspiration from the deep jewel tones popular in 90s corporate India, the seating is finished in a rich, deep green fabric, a conscious alternative to the beiges and greys of most contemporary office environments. This green, historically associated with authority, longevity, and trust, reinforces the space’s professional tone while adding depth and contrast to the wood-brass combination.

    Contemporary Design

Yet, the space is far from purely retro. In a deliberate departure, the design introduces violet-colored fluted panels on the front facades of work desks. This bold, contemporary element not only creates a dynamic rhythm in the otherwise understated space but also mirrors the firm’s branding color, establishing visual identity without relying on overt signage. The violet acts as a contemporary counterpoint to the 90s references, a stroke of individuality that gives the project its unique edge.

    Artwork

The bespoke Ram Darbar artwork infuses the space with a sense of devotion and spiritual presence, acting as a cohesive thread that brings the environment together through its cultural significance and emotional warmth.

    Furniture Design

The office furniture combines ergonomics with aesthetic consistency. Streamlined and efficient workstations, storage units, and meeting tables maintain material coherence with the palette. Built-in cabinetry hides clutter, allowing the architecture and materials to breathe.

    Lighting Design

Lighting plays a quiet but crucial role in enhancing this atmosphere. A mix of natural daylight, diffused ambient lighting, and strategic task lighting keeps the space well-lit without overexposure. The lighting is, therefore, designed to highlight material textures, stone, wood, fabric, rather than wash them out.

The SSA Office is not just a workspace, it is a temporal bridge between eras. It boldly steers clear of passing trends and resists the pull of nostalgia, standing firm in its own timeless identity. By embracing the core values of a past design generation, solidity, tactility, and identity and weaving in contemporary gestures, the project creates an environment that feels rooted and refreshed. It honors the quiet dignity of a past era, while boldly stepping into the future through material innovation, spatial clarity, and sensory awareness. It speaks in a quiet but confident tone, just like its user, measured, deliberate, and enduring.
