Amidst the fast-paced urban fabric of Mumbai, The Design Chapel has designed a home that wraps you in a warm, inviting embrace. This 1000 sq ft apartment, originally a two-and-a-half BHK, has been reimagined into a 2 BHK to allow for a more spacious living and dining space. By opening up the space, the main idea was to bring in an abundance of natural light to maximize openness and functionality, beautifully marrying timeless elegance with modern sophistication. This luxurious, chic sanctuary is thoughtfully designed by The Design Chapel, renowned for crafting designs that reflect the client’s individual stories and aspirations. Inspired by Alain de Botton, they weave spatial narratives that profoundly impact daily life. The specific needs and challenges of urban living in a fast-paced city like Mumbai require a house tailored to the specific needs of the clients and their lifestyle while beautifully marrying style and comfort.
This 1000 sq ft Apartment is a Luxurious, Chic Sanctuary in the City | The Design Chapel
The main door, with its intricate design and subtle color, sets the tone for the elegance that lies within the house. As you step into the living room, you’re greeted by a plush crescent-shaped sofa from West Elm in a soothing cream hue, the centre piece of the space. Accentuated with textured pillows in shades of beige and grey from AA Living, the seating arrangement invites relaxation.
The backdrop for this drama features large windows that flood the space with a sense of openness. Large, sheer curtains filter in natural light, creating an airy and bright atmosphere. This inviting piece is perfectly positioned in front of a black glass sliding door, providing a striking contrast that enhances the overall aesthetic.
These sliding doors hold a pooja space beyond which can be elegantly concealed whenever required, and when kept open extends the living space. The walls are adorned with a soothing palette of soft neutrals, creating a harmonious blend of muted hues and plush textures.
The beautiful Pichwai of Shri Nathji hangs beside a thoughtfully designed corner featuring a shelving unit. A round, wooden coffee table from IKEA stands on a marbled rug from Jaipur Rugs with earthy tones of grey and rust, adding a touch of organic warmth to the space. The media unit, with its ribbed white finish, complements the wainscoting on the back wall seamlessly blending aesthetics with practical storage.
The home office area is a lesson in functional elegance while catering to the client’s love for reading. A wooden desk and chair from West Elm with clean lines are positioned against a builtin bookshelf. The shelves, finished in a combination of light beige and rich walnut, display a curated selection of books and decorative objects, blending utility with aesthetics. A contemporary light fixture overhead ensures that the space is well-lit and conducive to productivity.
The central color scheme of the apartment revolves around beige and white tones, accented with wood and black elements. Wooden herringbone flooring infuses warmth throughout the space. Black dining chair legs contrast boldly, complementing the elegance of a beautiful marble top dining table. The overhead light fixture again creates a perfect setting for a relaxed dining ambiance.
The open plan kitchen is a standout feature with its deep blue cabinetry, creating a bold yet harmonious contrast with the rest of the home. The color blue was an intentional choice to break away from the subtle palette. Gold hardware and glass-fronted add a luxurious touch, while patterned tile flooring introduces a playful element. The light grey countertops and backsplash keep the space light and airy, ensuring that the bold color choice does not overwhelm.
The guest room features a combination of fluted and wainscoted walls behind the bed, with ample light streaming in from adjacent windows. Regular slatted wooden flooring grounds the space, while a beige upholstered bed back, accented with gray side table units and hints of gold in the knobs and handles, ensures a cohesive and inviting design.
The bathroom exudes a modern yet rustic charm, with a stone vessel sink as its focal point. The sink, set atop a sleek vanity, adds a tactile element to the space. The textured wall tiles in a muted shade provide a sophisticated backdrop. Meanwhile, the matte black fixtures offer a contemporary contrast, enhancing the overall modern aesthetic. The combination of the blue tiles with the wooden floor tiles creates a harmonious blend of cool and warm tones. This choice further enhances the spa-like feel of the shower area.
In the master bedroom, the wainscoting continues, framing a beige upholstered bed head with a gray curved border. The subtle introduction of gray sets a tone, distinct from the rest of the home. It is a personal sanctuary with a focus on comfort and simplicity.
The built-in wardrobes, with their clean lines and subtle detailing, offer ample storage without compromising the room’s aesthetic. The minimalist artwork on the beige walls and custom designed side tables enhances the room’s tranquil ambiance.
This room extends into a walk-in wardrobe, continuing the elegant color palette of beige, wood and black. The built-in vanity with a wooden countertop and a plush stool provides a perfect spot for daily grooming rituals.
The master bathroom speaks the language of chicness with British green fluted wall tiles. In addition, a beige countertop and an off-white sculptural bowl elevate its elegant charm. Fluted laminate storage and a smoked bulb hanging light add a sophisticated vibe.
Throughout the home, thoughtful design elements abound. From the elegant wall panelling in the bedroom, every detail speaks of intentional design. Moreover, the subtle yet sophisticated lighting choices enhance the cohesive and inviting atmosphere. The use of natural materials and a neutral color palette further enhances the home’s warm and welcoming vibe. This home is not just a living space but a testament to refined living. In fact, it offers a perfect retreat from the bustling city outside.
