Ways to Remodel Your Bedroom on a Budget

If your current bedroom is boring and uninspiring or you’re simply tired of your surroundings, it is time to switch things up. After all, we spend a good portion of our time in our bedroom sleeping, so your private space should be one that you enjoy retreating to at the end of the day.

The good news is that you don’t need to break the bank remodeling your bedroom. Changing the aesthetics of your space is enough to help generate more positive feelings towards your bedroom. Here are 7 ways to remodel your space while being mindful of your budget.

Plan accordingly

If you have a limited amount of money to remodel, think about what your must-haves are before you begin remodeling your room. Make a list of things that you want to change and estimate how much each change would cost. You can then see what options are most affordable or what options you can compromise on. For example, if you’re trying to buy a new mattress and install a storage system in your closet, you may be able to find ways to make both projects affordable. If your mattress is still in decent condition but you want to make it cozier, there is no need to replace your mattress. Instead, invest in a good mattress topper and use the money you save for another project.

Switch furniture around

Sometimes all you need to make your bedroom feel fresh again is to move furniture around. If you already have a fully furnished house, think about what furniture can be moved out of your bedroom and what furniture can be moved in. For example, if you have an end table that you love in another room of your house, you could move that end table in and your existing end table out.

Upcycle existing furniture

If you don’t want to move furniture around, look at your existing bedroom furniture and decide if a touch of paint or varnish would help. There’s no need to buy existing furniture if your current furniture is still functional. Look into DIY tips, such as restoring scratches in furniture using a mixture of vinegar and olive oil. Even something as simple as switching out the knobs on your dresser can help leave your room feeling fresh.

Focus on your walls

If you’re looking for a quick and cheap way to revamp the feel of your entire room, consider painting your room. A can of paint is fairly inexpensive and you can paint your room as often as you want. Keep in mind that light colors help make rooms feel larger and dark colors make rooms feel smaller. If you’re trying to brighten up a small room, consider painting your walls white or cream and then using accent furniture to add pops of color.

Find new artwork

Artwork and new decorative items, such as vases, can also help change the aesthetics of your room. Get rid of your existing decorative items, choose a new theme, and go shopping! If you want to be budget-friendly and/or don’t want your room to feel cluttered, focus on finding one or two pieces that you really love.

Refresh your bed

Buying new sheets or a comforter or adding some patterned throw pillows can make your bed feel cozier. Focus on buying basic colored linens and then add a touch of personality with fun decorative pillows. Then, the next time you’re ready for a switch, simply get rid of the pillows and find new decorative pillows that match your linens. Also, make sure to shop for comfortable linens. If your sheets are scratchy and stiff, you’re not going to enjoy sleeping in them.

Get rid of clutter

If you’re looking to remodel your bedroom without spending any money, it is time to purge. If you want to make your bedroom feel peaceful and clean, getting rid of unwanted clutter and reorganizing remaining items can help. Get rid of any trash, any clothes that no longer fit or that don’t bring you joy, and figure out ways to utilize storage spaces such as your dresser and closet. Don’t simply shove everything into your closet. Even if you can shut the door, you’ll still know that it is there. Take the time to organize it.

Final thoughts

Remodeling your bedroom doesn’t need to involve demolition and expensive new furniture. If you want to freshen up your space and be cognisant of budget, start by making simple changes to your existing space.
