‘Workspace design’ has become multidimensional, where many factors like comfort, creativity, productivity, collaboration, ambience, etc., come into play. As in today’s competitive world, the workplace naturally becomes a second home for an individual—a space where he/she spends a huge part of their time in a day. Thus, it becomes important that the workspace design provides a microclimate to enhance productivity and encourages connection and collaboration in corporate office design.
This Corporate Office Design Fosters Connection and Collaboration | The Design Alley
This exactly was our approach at the design alley while designing this office space for VTP Engineers & Contractors. Being an office of a government contractor, the idea was to convert a mundane office setup into a corporate-like setting, induce some art & artwork, and thus render it a friendly and peaceful vibe.
As we approach the office, a translucent glass window at the entrance lobby gives a sneak peek into the office.
There is a small reception and waiting area upon entering. The reception is flanked by the chief cabin on one side and a small pantry and workstation on the other.
On the other side of the reception desk is a workstation which features a low-height partition that serves as both a privacy screen and a backdrop for the laptop desk, striking a balance between privacy and an open layout.
Private Spaces: Chief Cabin
The chief cabin overlooks the road and forms a part of the building façade. Thus to maintain privacy and also allow some connection with the exterior, pivoted perforated panels were designed to cover the balcony. These panels have an earthy look, and the perforations create a dynamic play of light and shadow inside the cabin.
Thus, it forms an attractive backdrop to the cabin and also gives a unique identity to the office from the external side. The interior of the cabin is subtle with a pastel color scheme, a minimalist desk with golden accents, and silent walls accentuated by artworks.
A linear corridor from the reception leads to the core of the office. Moreover, this passage is accentuated by patterned flooring and illuminated by adjustable track lights, enhancing its functionality. It features a compact seating area with built-in storage; the glass window at the back provides a subtle view of passersby. Additionally, the corridor culminates in the third cabin.
The corridor culminates into the third cabin, a multifunctional space with a potential of adapting to different needs. It houses a foldable desk that can convert into a conference table whenever required—it allows one to quickly set up and reconfigure the space depending on the size of the group or the type of meeting. Hence, the space remains uncluttered when not in use, maintaining the minimalist aesthetic of the cabin, balancing a professional aesthetic with the cabin’s casual vibe.
