This Traditional Interior Style Embodies Modernity With Cultural Roots | EVK architects
Upon visiting the site, the inherent positivity of the space immediately struck us. The abundant natural light streaming in clarified our vision: to enhance this brightness while preserving the uplifting atmosphere.
Positioned on the first floor, the apartment offers easy access to views of the surrounding foliage, which we leveraged in our design. We oriented all living/common spaces to invite in natural light and fresh air, creating a harmonious indoor-outdoor connection.
Structural changes aligned with the above drew in natural light exponentially. The team thoughtfully selected the warm material palette to achieve a contemporary aesthetic inspired by nature, seamlessly weaving it with elements of Indian culture to enrich the overall design.
The open plan thoughtfully incorporates various elements to visually distinguish the different areas.
For instance, a planter acts as a green curtain between the family and dining areas. Meanwhile, the sliding folding wood glass partition separates the family room and living room. However, when opened, this feature creates a seamless flow among all spaces.
Furthermore, the colour palette transitions gently from warmer to cooler tones as one moves from the living area to the kitchen, enhancing the sense of cohesion throughout the home.
As a result, the space looks explicitly bigger, and the cascade of natural light gushing in was splendid. Moreover, few structural variations changed the entire look and feel of the apartment.
The husband and wife both had varied tastes and preferences. The design carefully takes into account blending both thought processes.
Therefore, the end result was much appreciated. A blend of ethnic tastes with modern styles is beautifully merged, giving each of them their cozy corner while still being in the same space together at all times.
Special attention was given to the mother’s room, as she held a deep emotional attachment to her old bed, filled with memories of her late husband.
She insisted on keeping the bed, and rather than uprooting her from her cherished past, we chose to refurbish it. This allowed the bed to seamlessly integrate into the new space while preserving the emotional significance it holds for her.
The timeline was quite a challenge. The timings given by the developer for work were restricted, also there were numerous civil changes that were to be done.
In spite of all this, the team managed to finish the project within the given timeline, with better planning of procuring materials and furniture that were to be made off-site to save time and design coordination. With a good project management team on board, this was carried out smoothly.
Thus, thoughtfully integrated details in the furniture design unfold into practical functionality while maintaining an elegant aesthetic.
