The Interior Design of Apartment Evokes a Sense of Calm | Paraline Design Studio

The brief of the interior design of the apartment emphasized two key elements: the house should evoke a sense of calm upon entering, and it should make a statement that binds the home’s character with the essence of the people living in it. When Mrs. Gandhi approached me for designing their house, she brought a wealth of ideas and aspirations for her new home. Her enthusiasm and clarity about her family’s needs provided the perfect opportunity for us to infuse creativity and innovation into our design. The family, comprising a couple, two sons aged 12 and 7, and a grandmother, sought a home that would reϐlect their personalities and cater to their.

Editor’s Note: With the subtle tones and popping furniture, this house accents a calm yet statement-making aura. Each space is meticulously designed from the entrance to the bedrooms, making the home a personal sanctuary for the inhabitants. By integrating a holistic design approach, the house comes together as an individual yet united space for everyone. ~ Rajvi Dedakiya

Holistic Design Approach

Throughout the house, the design aimed to create a seamless blend of individuality and cohesion. Each room reϐlected the personality of its occupant while contributing to the overall character of the home. The use of subtle tones and accent elements ensured that the spaces felt connected yet distinct. Textures like stone veneer, warm wood, and soft fabrics added layers of depth, while carefully chosen accent colors like rust, blue, and blush brought life to the interiors.

Designing the Gandhi family’s home was an enriching experience, as it allowed us to translate their dreams into a tangible reality. From the culturally signiϐicant swing in the living room to the personalized spaces for each family member, every design decision was made with their aspirations and lifestyle in mind. The result was a home that not only exuded warmth and sophistication but also resonated deeply with the family’s identity and values. This project was a testament to the beauty of collaboration between designer and client, where shared vision and creativity come together to create something truly special.

Living Room

The Heart of the Home, the living room was envisioned as the centerpiece of the house, a space where the family could come together, and guests could be entertained.

Being a Gujarati family, the inclusion of a swing (jhula) was a non-negotiable feature, symbolizing cultural heritage and comfort.

We placed the swing strategically to ensure it became a focal point of the room without overwhelming the space

The Dining Room

The dining area adjacent to the living room was another significant highlight. A gallery-style wallpaper installation adorned the main wall, featuring black-and-white-edged borders that created depth and sophistication.

The console unit beneath the art was a standout piece in a rich rust colour, which contrasted beautifully with the subtle-toned wallpaper behind it, drawing the eye and adding a burst of vibrancy to the space.

The overall palette of the living area was composed of soft, neutral tones to maintain a serene ambiance. To create contrast, we incorporated a striking blue highlight door that stood out as a unique centerpiece, adding character and breaking the monotony of the muted colours.

The TV unit was another noteworthy design element, with its stone veneer finish paired with a blue cabinet that balanced the earthy texture of the veneer with a bold, modern touch.

Master Bedroom: A Cozy Retreat

The master bedroom exuded warmth and coziness through a soft, neutral colour palette accented with blush tones. The centerpiece of the room was a bed with a padded headboard in a gentle pink hue, which added elegance and comfort to the space.

A unique pendant light on either side of the bed contributed to the room’s ambiance. These lights feature modern spherical designs and add a contemporary touch. Meanwhile, it maintains a sense of harmony with the overall design.

A built-in wooden shelf behind the bed served as both a functional storage solution and a stylish design element. Thus, complemented by a minimalistic side table adorned with tasteful decor.

Additionally, the combination of warm wood textures, soft blush tones, and modern accents created a restful retreat. Moreover, this balances functionality with refined aesthetics.

Parents’ Room: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

The parents’ bedroom was designed to harmonize a subtle Indian aesthetic. Meanwhile, it also ensures contemporary comfort. The pastel green wardrobe set the tone for a calming and inviting atmosphere, while warm wooden furniture added depth and richness.

To enhance the room’s Indian appeal, the curtains featured delicate motif work. Additionally, the combination of soft colors and rich textures created a serene and welcoming environment perfect for relaxation.

However, the subtle interplay of tradition and modernity in the design made this space a true reflection of the parents’ tastes and preferences.

Children’s Room: Functional and Playful

The children’s room was designed with a focus on practicality and creativity. For the elder son, aged 12, we opted for a clean, modern look that encouraged focus and productivity. The room featured a bed with a vertical-striped headboard in black and white. Thus, offering a subtle yet striking visual contrast.

Built-in shelving above the desk area provided ample storage for books and essentials while maintaining a streamlined appearance.

Soft, muted tones dominated the room, accented with wooden textures that added warmth and character. The layout was thoughtfully planned to accommodate both study and relaxation. Meanwhile, it creates an ideal space for a growing teenager.

For the younger son, aged 7, we introduced playful design elements that sparked imagination and creativity. Moreover, the room included vibrant pops of blue color and interactive decor to create an engaging and lively environment. Functional furniture and storage solutions ensured that the space remained organized while still feeling fun and inviting.
